Thanks mark for your reply.

I have found all the paperwork re handbooks to the different appliances in the van and although we havnt found a plate above the door as previous owners have installed a mini heater on the panel above the door, the serial no on the folder for the van is 90AV221500.

it is a tidy little van and will do for us to have w/ends away in. My hubby is a dab hand at DIY so i'm sure we can give it a little TLC!

Cheers
Hazel

hi Mark, thanks so much for that. when the people I bought it off said, "we think it's a mid 90s model", I took it with more than a pinch of salt! I thought it was late eighties and being brown it is, as you say, the 89 model. thanks again, Dave...

Hi Mark,

Could you please help me (again)???

My last caravan was a 1986 Abi Ace Viceroy
My new caravan is a 1995 Lunar Venus

Side by side they were exactly the same size, therefore I kept my lovely awning from the Viceroy and of course it doesn't fit!!!!!! Its too short, I guess the roof is higher on my new caravan.

Could you please help:-
- what size is the awning off the Viceroy (so I can sell it)
- what size awning do I need for the Venus (so I can buy one)

Thanks

Donna

Hi Donna I always recommend people to measure their own van with a piece of string ground to ground (about 32' long in your case) so any mishaps are self inflicted. Your Viceroy would have been a nominal 900cm whereas the Venus should be around 930cm - so i presume your old awning is about a foot short for your new van? Cheers, Mark

Donna, if you like your awning so much? then there is nothing to stop you having it extended?
This involves removing the awning rail tape and stitching a 'V' into the roof section and then putting a longer tape back on.
There are plenty of people around that will do this but not generally in the summer months, in the winter though it can be quite cheap. Use yell.com for local 'marquee manufacturers or suppliers'

Thanks Gary and Mark, I think I'll keep it for now and look into getting it extended after the summer. Its probably ancient, a Trio Sport (grey colour) but it looks smart and we can put it up in 10 minutes.

We have a porch awning also.

Been looking at full awnings, aren't they expensive??????

Thanks again

Donna

Hi Mark
We purchased a caravan 3 months ago, we were told it was 1994 elddis mistral GTX, a kind lady smashed into us 2 weeks ago, which has written off caravan kind insurance assessor has tried to tell me that caravan is an 1983 version, serial no D221383 e. My research says that model was not produced until 1987 to 1993 can you help? it doesn't look like a 83 version in that gas is stored in the structure, water pump is on exterior under a flap and so is electric hookup.

Crikey Cathy you have certainly got a load of "bad" information there! The Mistral GTX was 1987 to 1992. Yours is a 1987 model which as you say had the integrated gas bottle locker. The assessor is obviously going by the last 2 digits of the serial number? He is likely writing it off with a replacement value of £400ish and no doubt if you insured it as a 1994 then you have been paying premiums for £2000 + . This is when you really pay for being conned in the first place. Good luck, Mark. p.s. I dont think your assessor will take much notice when you say you got your information from "a man in a forum on the internet" LOL

Hi Mark
You were spot on he offerred 5oo but I pointed him to the elddis owners club which listed by year all makes produced at that time and when the model was first introduced in 1987 to 1992 I think I won argument and gained a few quid as he couldn't figure out year of van and I seemed to have more knowledge than him, kind assessor !
Thanks for your help and what would you recommend to purchase ? needs are 2 berth, under 17 feet in total length as storage a major problem and would like a seating area separate from bed and light to tow?
guess I'm asking a lot eh!

Hi Cathy yes you are asking a lot! What do you mean by total length? If you mean shipping length then you have no chance, if you mean body length then maybe you have. Firstly a 2 berth as you request is fairly easy but you also say you want a seperate seating area so the van no longer remains a 2 berth it becomes a 4! A lot of couples use a 4 berth layout as a "2 berth" to save them making beds, take the grandkids etc. If you go for an older van you have a chance of getting something lighter but anything modern ie 2000 and newer you will be looking at much heavier and unless you go for a straight 2 berth you have no chance of keeping within your length as nearly everything now has a fixed bed!

We are looking at 90's caravans, 2, we will start looking 4 births, interesting fact about the fixed bed we have seen these in newer caravans, well out of our price range though. Make... would you recommend any particular makes over others, or they all preety similar in quality.
We really do appreciate your advice, thanks !

Hi Mark

Can you help in identifying an Elddis Tornado (1989) for me. It has a number near the tow hitch M4170GA 1000Kg. There is also a number S75KQ near that one. Would either of these be the chassis no?

Thanks in advance

Hi Tom. Depending on its age the serial number will either end in an "E" or start with the letters EL prefixed by 2 numbers. ? If it is a 1989 it will be a "Tornado XL". Cheers. ps send me your friends item number off Ebay and it will give me a clue!

OK Tom thanks for your email with the numbers and pictures. The Ebay item describing a 1989 Elddis is actually a 1985 model. Better luck next time. Cheers, Mark

ps this is a 1985
