Hi Neil the plate by the door of your Pioneer should have the number written on it so either someone has previously removed it to fasten on another van or it has been rubbed off? Your number should be prefixed with either MK2 or MK3 both produced in 1990. They both had a single piece bow shaped front window. The earlier one had a green band and green curtains, the later one had thin maroon coloured stripes and dusky pink curtains. Cheers, Mark

Sean, they made your 4.30D/L in 1983 and 84. Both were identical and your number indicates it will PROBABLY be the later model. You won't get identical replacement parts for a 25 year old caravan, but, in an accessory shop like ours you can certainly get window catches, pumps, lights, door retainers, sinks etc. Watch out for fridges tho, as you could find you have to spend more on one of those than the caravan cost! Regards, Mark

ok Douglas as you know I don't do staticsbut can tell you that they amde the Florida 35x10 3B in 98/99, and again in 2001. The difference is quite distinctive as the later model had the "bow" shaped front window. The spare bed arrangement in the lounge was different also where the 90's versions simply made a bed in the front corner, the later one had a roll out version into the middle of the floor. Cheers, Mark

Thanks Mark, I thought it was a 1985 so 1984 sounds about right. Would you need a photo of the old sink in order for you to match up a suitable one for us to buy-what sort of pice would one be? Regards, Sean

Thanks Mark, we were always told the plate would be at the front on the plastic cover so discarded the blank plate by the door. (Definately blank and never had anything stamped on it which has worn. Hope it does not mean it is a previously stolen caravan.) You are correct about the front window, and we have pink curtains which suggests it is the later model. Thanks for all your help, you definately know your caravans.

Hello I was wondering if you could confirm the date of my Sprite Which I believe is a 1966 400. I have a '68 brochure which has some details of those model years but the doors are on the opposite side of mine, were they ever built for export say to North America? The chassis number is H66 3868. Also is there anyway of finding replacement brake cables? The outer covers have corroded and now the surge brake no longer works and I've just redone the whole front corner due to dry rot and the typical remarks around here are' Why not get a new one?(travel trailer)' yet I have never found anything remotely as useful, lightweight and unique as this Sprite! Any help is much appreciated! Thanks, Mike P.S. The photo was pre-rebuild out at my dads place.

Hi MikeW your Sprite 400 is indeed a 1966 model. It was manufactured during the heyday of Sam Alper when his "Alperson Products" were growing at a rapid rate and his caravans were not only being distributed to 17 different countries but were also being manufactured in South Africa, Rhodesia and the Irish Republic. This was all a far cry from what goes on nowadays where we currently export no more than 100 caravans a year!! so in answer to your question ~ Yes there were many Sprites with the door on the Continental side. Good luck bringing it back to its former glory. I no longer know where you will obtain parts. Cheers, Mark

Hi Spencer, amazingly enough the description of the Challenger being a 1985 model on EBay was correct! The 550 model was made between 1985 and 1988 model years. Yours, as the hitch and the Cascade MK1 signifies, would have been manufactured after August 1984. The description also mentions the problem of water ingress which was unfortunately common in these models. Cheers, Mark

Only got info back to 1973. The unladen weight was 483kg and the max was 622kg. Can't see many people arguing with that? As you say very light but like the rest of us will have put on a few kilos since then!

Isabel. This thread is not for info on mending and repairing stuff but simply and assuming nobody has fiddled and altered things ~ 1. Yes there will be a mains switch to turn on to charge the battery 2.Yes you put the 12v switch to caravan 3.If your car is wired correctly it will automatically charge the caravan battery and run the fridge while towing. Most faults regarding this are due to the car and not the caravan :----)
