OK the 91 had the Cascade 2 fitted as standard but yours may have been updated so still can't really tell if if its 90 or 91 without the serial number. BTW the battery wall switch is purely for igniting the gas not for actually heating the water :--)

Hi Michelle your Sterling is a 2001 model. I presume it is an "Alpine" as it can't be an "Eccles" as well? I have a brochure I can photocopy for £2 plus an SAE. Cheers, Mark

Hi mark,

obviously i haven't read all the posts lol,

i have a abi award daystar with the number m3ab248026 on the plate beside the door,it has pink curtains/carpet and pink trim around the sink and cooker.
Am i right to assume the number means its a mark 3 and its 1990 ?

Thanks for a reply aj.

ps forgot to add,
it says 0-1100kg
1-75kg
2-900kg

i again assume 1100kg is the maximum weight and 900kg is the actual towing weight(unladen)
again thanks for any reply aj.

Hi Andy, i have replied to your email as follows: according to all my records a MK3 is a 1990 season model Daystar. However your description of carpet and curtains applies to a 91 model which was normally a MK4 produced from September 1990. I can only assume yours was a late model 1990 chassis with the later model furnishings. Also what would confirm this is a 1990 had an unladen weight of 900kg (which is what yours is) while a 1991 was 940kg ~ as a cassette toilet was a standard feature. The payload is 200kg giving a max weight of 1100kg for the 1990, while the 91 had a payload of 260kg making 1200kg.

mhhhhh it is interesting then,

mine has the casette toilet with the shower but another strange thing is that in the middle of the carpet there is a round plate with a hole in it (even though new to caravans i assume this was for a pole that was a support for the table ?)yet the table that is in the toilet/shower room has free standing legs.

it does seem abit odd but then again my car is a 2003 model with the older interior whereas a friend has the same model but a 2002 and has the newer features.

Thanks for all the info its much appriecaited,As i said in the email you could well see me visiting to upgrade in the latter of next year if me and my friends family take to caravanning.

Thamks aj.

hi again,

I just had a brainwave maybe the support in the middle of the carpet area was a support for the bed when its laid down, but the bed area in mine has a box at the front and theres lats of wood that pull out and sit on the edges of the seats thus making the bed.

It does seem like you say and that its a older chassis with newer fittings.

1 things for sure though it isnt no-where near as new as what it was advertised at.
but then again i am happy with what i paid for it and age didnt matter as its a starter van thats in good condition and thats all i want to start with.

ps thanks for the best wishing for our first caravan trip next week.hopefully there will be many more to come and cant wait till next september when the finance is paid off on our car so we can upgrade to something with more pulling power and hopefully a newer caravan.

(the family loved camping so i am sure they will all like caravanning aswell)

Thanks again for all the help.

Hi
My sister has bought a swift corniche 12/2 about 20 years old with no manual do you know where I can get ifo from regarding the use of the appliances?
There is no battery in the van as this was removed befors sale- does she need to purchase a leisure battery for it or can it run just off the mains on hook up??
I wondered about the ignition for the water heater will this run off mains?
Thanks

Mark -

Can you help with a year of manufacture, please? It's an ABI Ace Award 14/4 with a stamped serial number 310505 and the printed letter A. The van has plastic manoeuvring handles and a Carver gas heater. I can't find a chassis plate, but the hitch plate gives B&B Trailers Sigma II Ga 1100Kg. (It has rod-operated brakes which I suppose will be the original autoreversing Lockheeds for which spare parts are NLA?)

Many thanks, Tom.

Hi Sally i shall assume that it is a 1989 model Corniche which is the one with the grey plastic panels and the "boot" (locker) at the back end. Yes she should always use a leisure battery for operating the 12 volt system. The charger is at it says on the box a charger and not a transformer so it is designed to charge a battery. Having said that it will have an output of 12 to 14 volts so when you are plugged into the mains it will give out enough power to work the lights etc but you will find that when you switch the water pump on the lights will go dim! Also using it in this way considerably shortens the life of the charger. The water heater was a Cascade 2 which has a control box on the wall which functions from 12 volt (you will find that if you dont use a leisure battery the voltage will be inconsistent and the water heater wont function correctly) while the water heater itself is gas operated. The later model caravans had a Cascade GE2 which had a 240Volt function.

Hope that clears up your points. Cheers, Mark

Hi Tom you have a 1982 Award 14/4. Some brake parts are still available, otherwise you will need a caravan breakers. Cheers, Mark
