Hi. I'm considering buying an Ace Jubilee Ambassador which I've been told is an '89 model but how can I tell the difference between an '89 and an '87? If it's possible. ('87 being the year the Jubilees were first made.) I know I could use the chassis number to put an age to it but I've not got it and next time I'll see the van is the 'haggling' stage and it'll be too late to dispute the age. (Somethings niggling me that it's an '87, don't know why.) It has a beige/brown enamel sink/drainer/3 ring hob (same colour as my earlier '85/'86 Viceroy). No oven. Carver 3000 with Truma blown air. Same upholstery as my Viceroy. Externally accessed locker on the front nearside. Unusual cassette toilet, it looks like a hybrid between a C2/3/4 'bench' and a Porta Potti. It's top is identical to the upper part (fresh water tank/ seat) of a Porta Potti, complete with pull-out handle to open waste tank with an electric flush, but the lower part is an externally accessed waste tank, as in 'normal' cassette loos. Internally, it is all molded in one unit, not split as per Porta Potti. The external door is a plastic thing about a foot long an 8 or 9 inches high. (Any info on this loo?) Strangely, it isn't as high inside as the Viceroy was. I'm 6'2" and could stand up straight in it no problem, yet I can't in this Ambassador. I thought they were all 6'4" headroom . . . Have I given you any clues at all as to be able to distinguish it's age? Cheers, Kev.

Thanks Mark for your help Found a plate that says Elddis Caravans (consett) Ltd Consett co Durham Serial No MM92 MGW 850 Kgs. These old vans seem to be a lot lighter than the new models which is very suprising. Do you know where I could get a hand book from on this model. Many thanks again for your help & knowledge. Hi Nikki. Got your email thanx, unfortunately the description you give is very similar to most years. The serial number is on a plate above the door on the inside wall of the caravan. This will tell you the year. regards, Mark

Hi Baker yes they were only made in 1993 (apart from the earlier 84 model) £2995 is a fair retail price. It cost £6299 when it was new, it was 11'6" in length, and weighed 655kg exworks. Regards, Mark

Hi as you say the jubilee started in 1987. The change in 89 was mainly the front gas locker box which became virtually the full width of the van, rather than the metre wide version you had in your Viceroy. The toilet is probably the version made by Fiamma from your description. Regards, Mark

Can you please help us identify the age of my brothers caravan. Not alot to go on I'm afraid. It is an Atlas Shadow 530 twin axled, 4 berth, approx 21'it has clear windows and the rounded end as opposed to the slanted bodies. We are guessing mid 80's but really not sure. Many thanks Andrea

Cheers Mark, that's solved the mystery of the toilet, it certainly does appear to be a Fiamma.

Hi, I've just bought a Trophy Agilic 4 ET, the only plate that I can find on it is on the drawbar but its all in German, the year is 82, noseweight 50kg and then 2 other figures of 350kg and 700kg.All the gas and electrics are working but my main concern is the size of the tyres they are 145sr12. Is this right and if so can you tell me what the tyre pressure should be?. Also do you have a copy of the handbook that I can purchase? Thanks Alan

Hi Alan yes Trophys did have small wheels and tyres in the early 80's and i remember selling them! Trouble is the brochure doesnt show the actual sizes and pressures and unfortunately the handbooks werent much use either (they didnt bother much in those days). I would gas 35 psi would be about right but i would check 1st. If you want a photocopy of the handbook please send me an SAE and £2 in stamps/P.O. Thanx, Mark http://www.callendercaravans.co.uk

Mark, could you please tell me the awning size for an Ace Jubilee Ambassador ('87 - '89 model). Seeing as the Viceroy was an 875 I'd hazard a guess at the Ambassador being an 850. Strange how these models have a smaller awning size than the actual size of the van. Cheers, Kev.

Hi Kev my old awning book says the ambassador is 807 to 838cm. They are smaller because of the boat shaped roof rather than the square sided taller modern vans. If in doubt i would check and measure it first. Regards, Mark http://www.callendercaravans.co.uk

Hi andrea yes sorry i did reply but it seems to have gone into cyberspace? Your van is an "Astral" Shadow. the 530 was made in 1977 and 1978 so im afraid its a bit older than you think. It cost £2869 and £3269 respectively and weighed 1082kg exworks. My 1978 brochure shows them having tinted plastic windows so if yours is glass it will be the 77 model.
