Hi. It certainly sounds early 70's. The "black" CI badge denotes around 72/73. I suspect it is a Musketeer "S" from your description. They also did a "C" with the bunk across the back and a "CD" with 2 double dinette beds. Without the serial No. though I cant be more accurate Regards, Mark.

The plate should be on the nearside of the A frame (towbar) alternately you may find a chassis number further underneath the van, again on the nearside. ok.

Tabberts are German and looked the same for many years. The 5500 was amde in 1978 and 79 we actually have one in stock at the moment - it is a 1979 model. If you can locate the serial number it would help. Regards, Mark http://www.callendercaravans.co.uk

hi I have a Castleton above the door (inside ) there is a badge with 1971 on it,it has original wooden inside, whale pump tap, double and bunk bed. We have been told it is approx 30 years old and need an age and value for insurance. The weight of the caravan is 19 1/4 cwt,we still hav'nt found out the model yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Castleton ceased production in 1995. You may be able to find a Peak chassis number on the nearside chassis rail towards the wheel which will give me the age but from what you say I suspect it is a 1971. If the M.G.W. of the van is 19.25 cwt I would say it is a Castleton Romany 4 which was 13' long and had a double bed at the fron with a settee single and a bunk over the top The kitchen was in the rear corner. It was £795 when new. You will probably struggle to insure it as its value will be less than any repair would cost. regards, Mark. http://www.callendercaravans.co.uk

Than you very much for the information that you have provided, the kitchen is to the rear, sink in middle under window and work surface and cooker/ovan to the right of this with toilet compartment left of the sink. I shall endever to find the chassis number and let you know what it is. once again many thanks.

Hi Mark, Would be pleased if you would shed some light on the age of my little van. I bought it last year and it was sold to me as 1990, but I am sure it is older. The asking price was £850, but got it down to £700. It is a 2berth CI Esprit, 12ft. 775kg. The no stamped on the chassis appears to read SCUOO 085 720318, as far as I can make out. Many thanks, Wendy.

Hi. the Esprit 12/2 was made in 1984 and 85. from the number yours is a 1985 model. This had a fridge, double glazing and a space heater fitted. options were mains electric, oven, hot water and shower. they were fairly lightweight at 640kg ex works. regards Mark http://www.callendercaravans.co.uk

Cheers Mark. Mine hasn`t got any of those options, although I have had an oven put in since I purchased it. Were they any good, as caravans go, and what price would it have been new? Also was I ripped off at £700? It is in very good condition, inside and out, if a little basic! Wendy.

Hi. Wendy. They were mid range being one of the last with a seperate gas bottle locker. It was £3735 when new and £700 is about ok in the condition you say, I just wish private sellers didnt make their vans 5 years newer than they are! they did have problems with water ingress in the front corners and round the windows so just have a prod around to check the interior panels arent rippled and spongy. regards, Mark

Thanks very much for all the info, you are an absolute star. I wish I`d known about this forum, and especially you, last year when I was looking for a caravan (My first) It has cost me at least what I paid for it with lots of little bits that have had to be replaced, jockey wheel, skylight etc, and a new front window (£450). Never mind, thats life! Wendy.

Hi. If this number is B&B (notpb) it denotes a 1972 chassis so it would confirm our thought of 71 ish OK

Hi. I've just beaten my record by 2 years for a caravan being older than the customer thought. the customer traded it in on the basis he was sold it as a 1987 and when it arrived it was quite clearly a 1980. Why do people keep getting conned into this? Even more costly for those concerned was one of our storage customers has just come back with a van they were told by the "nice couple" was a 1995 "bargain" turns out to be a 1992 which for insurance purposes is worth £1600 less. Needless to say they are not happy and have gone back to the previous owners. I wonder what they will say!!!! Regards, Mark Lewis, Callender Caravans, Carnforth http://www.callendercaravans.co.uk

Hi Mark, We have just bought our first caravan, a Compass Omega, 2 birth, Serial No:- CC2563, we paid £850 and told it was a 1986 model. It has brown plastic windows but a clear glass window over sink area. I would be grateful to you for any information, Susan
