Punto (w reg) revving on its own! Help!

Punto (w reg) revving on its own! Help!

My W Reg Punto is revving of its own accord. This usually happens when I start the car and whenever I slow down at junctions and such. Its an intermitent problem, somedays the car can drive fine. If i let the car get up to high revs and then give it some gas it seems to sort the problem for a while... but a few days later it will start playing up again!

Any ideas as to whats causing this problem?

I had the same problem last year after having the head gasket changed but a bit of WD sorted it out, however it hasnt worked this time. :o(
