Thanks. What you describe is exactly what I found inside mine when I opened it up, but mine was clearly not OEM. The original equipment does not have threads in the tube in which the screw turns. Thereefore, it only works as you describe if a helicoil has been inserted into the tube. I have obtained an OEM handle from Lewmar, and it is not designed to be fixed at the end of the threaded shaft, which means it is supposed to turn in relation to the threaded shaft. When you turn the handle, the threaded shaft is drawn up into the handle as the handle bears against the end surface of the housing. And if you look inside the housing, you will see that there are attachment points for a brake band. It's not clear how it is supposed to attach. The next stop is an automotive machine shop, I think. I have Cobra 4 pedestal with a break that is working on Hideaway if you can give me your email I will send you a drawing of the unit. Francis.
I have just sailed a Sigma41 from Turkey to Norway. I am interested in the question of a Class Ass too. My name is Patrick Verde, tel 0047 90177770
I just bought a Sigma41 and sailed her from Turkey to Norway. You say you sail yours singlehanded - I find that difficult - can you give me some tips on the changes you have made - ex mainsailsheeting, running back stays, positioning of genuasheeting etc. Regards Patrick Verde, Oslo Norway
I have a test article from 1982 Yachting World. I also have a boat for sale. Totally refurbished hull, inkl new teakdeck - lying Norway. but I think maybe this is not the right forum. Call med on 0047 90177770. Patrick
I took of the whole keel and it was fixed to the huss as you said. Easy just to change the bolts, but I had so much misture int eh hull around the kell so we refurbished everything - totally new bottom - better than new says the surveyor. Thanks for your tips. Patrick
I got my teakdeck renewed in Turkey. They made a fantastic jobb out of it - cost 50% of EU price. I want to sell if the price is right. The problem is the boat is not VAT'ed to England. Regards Patrick. '

We were sailing Shawn & Victoria Plummer's BLACK ADDER in September and were inside the visitors' harbor at St. Peter Port with full fuel and water tanks. When the harbormaster saw we were aground by about 6" in the berth at low tide, he came over and asserted that the boat must draw closer to 2.5 meters, because he is sure that he has at least 2.1 meters in that berth. Of course, this wouldn't be the first time a someone has grounded on a spot the harbormaster assured was plenty deep. I didn't believe him, but we did wait until there was 2.5 meters over the sill before leaving. Ted Keech FAYAWAY San Francisco

We run with a draft allowance of 2.1m (design states 2.08m), the offset for the echo sounder being around 30cm. Experience tells me that this is correct, having scraped the keel bottom on several occasions and noted the exact depth we touched. Always stayed on the pontoons at Guernsey, never grounded there. My P bracket is still moving slightly after having been re-fitted last year, I know the engine and prop are in line. Any thoughts? Teak decks, mine was carefully redressed by local chippie and looks and feels great, we re-did the cockpit ourselves at a cost of a round £ 900, looks great as well. Best regards. Shawn.

In my opinion she is wonderfull to sail by two in all conditions. The strong arm is needed though since the mainsail winch and the genua winches are originally dimensioned too small. Patrick (Sunbird of Wyre - lying in Oslo/Norway)
I did it in Marmaris Turkey. Very good harbour for GRP and Wooden work. Can give you names if you need. 15m2 of teakdeck, taking of the old, mounting the new inkl cockpit, cockpittable, handrails etc (beautifull work), remounting all deckfittings with new sealing and bolts. Teakdeck glued not screwn to the deck. All in all 7.500 euro. regards Patrick
