Just to let you know that I have just come across your site. My wife and I have a Sigma 41 (Fractional), bought new in 1985 (No.59) that we keep in Greece. Most things are still working o.k. eg. Bukh 36 John
We have just replaced the inset aluminum window frames with bolt-on, 9mm or 10mm, smoked acrylic panels. If the water is coming in around the frames, the frames are not so hard to get out to recaulk. But if water is coming in between the lens and the frame, getting the lens out is murder. I bent one trying, and that led to the decision to replace them all. We did learn the hard way that the new acrylic needs to be about 13mm bigger than the old frame all the way around. We are recessing the nuts into the wood panelling, to be covered with trim of some as yet undecided material. The new panels look great from the outside, even though they are larger. And we can see out now. Pix available. Ted Keech
Happy to help. We sailed via Corsica, Bonafacio Straits to Porto Cervo in Sardinia. Then thru Messina Straits to Crotone and across to Paxos, south of Corfu. The paperwork in Greece is much easier now with their entry in the E.C. Why stay in Spain when there are hundreds of islands in Greece to sail to, only 20/30 miles apart !! John
I took out all the Alu frames & resealed them a couple of years ago. I agree with you, the acrylic panels were difficult to get out, so I left them. Will probably do the same & change them completely. Would like to see your photos. My e-mail, is [Log in to view email] Also, saw "Fayaway" in Oakland, on Google Earth. John
We took out our windows this winter, and resealed them - as long as you have great patience they come out in time - we used a sharp edged scraper to cut the Sikaflex or whatever sealant had been used on the frames. Roger
Due a continued change in our personal circumstances I have reluctantly decided to sell AlphaIV, AlphaIV has had two owners from new, Mast Head, Built 1986, lightly used, set up for two handed sailing. A recent survey is available, Berthed east coast, If you know of any one who may be looking or can advise the best way to sell please e mail me. Regards Wayne & Sue
We are looking for a yacht to sail round the Atlantic and are very interested in your Sigma 41, Alpha IV. Can you please sent us more information? We would like to receive some photo's, an inventory of the yacht and the survey report. Regards
Can you send me your e mail address and I will send details, My e mail is [Log in to view email] Regards Wayne & Sue

Does anyone have the specs of the boat, i.e. length,beam,draught(7'3")water,diesel cap etc. I have misplaced mine.Email in usual place. Many thanks Jim
anyone interested in 1984 Sigma 41 with tall rig (P=17,10m/I=15,20m)?? Dirk
Like most who haven't renewed their engines we have the Bukh 36 diesel. Also like most, we have extended our battery capacity way beyond the original - in our case to just over 400Ah. The original Paris-Rhone 50A car alternator, even with a charge controller on it, takes quite a while to charge the battery. I'd like to upgrade the alternator to at least 100A, but space around the brackets is limited. Has anyone successfully upgraded to a larger alternator and if so, could you share the details with the rest of us? Thanks, Tom.
Before we did the Atlantic when we still had a Bukh I looked into uprating the alternator - I came up against a brick wall - tried all sorts but nothing appeared to be suitable. Its possible that there is something now though, good hunting. Roger
I cannot look up make/model number etc just now as boat in Portugal but will be back there later in month and can get if you still need then. Hope this helps. David - 'Intrigue'
Congratulions are in order for Shawn Plummer and his crew on Black Adder who finished the Fastnet last evening, and to Tom Sperrey and his guys on Nightlife who are aproaching the finish right now. reckon our boats are still pretty well put together....
It's the heaviest sailing I've done, including seven previous Fastnets, a Whitbread Transatlantic leg and quite a few other 500nm-plus races. I can honestly say that the integrity of the boat was never in doubt and while our Sigma 41s weren't the fastest finishers they're probably one of the best all-rounders if you want to combine family sailing, long-distance cruising and racing all in the same boat. As we're currently standing fourth (by only half a point) in the RORC IRC 3 series to the overall winner of the last Fastnet, 'Iromiguy', I guess it proves our boats do both jobs very well! Can't help hankering after the new Class 40 boats though! Guess I just need two!
If you've got a camera on your mobile phone, could I ask you to take a couple of pics for me? Then I can see what mounting mods I might need to make. All the best, Tom
