Hi Tom,

We had a similar problem after we had reassembled the chain plates and found the leak was between chainplate and deck plate, silicon applied externally round the tangs of the chainplates cured it.

Thanks, Jim, but that's something I've tried. I'm beginning to think that the incoming water is coming under the teak decking but above the GRP, even though we renewed the deck about four years ago.

Anyone else got ideas I could try?

Tom.

Hi Jim,
I used arbomast which is a none drying mastic ( at least only the surface dries). It came with the windows when I had them reglazed. I applied it after a winter under cover so everything was good and dry and so far it has stayed that way.

Hi Tom

I think you have hit the nail on the head so to speak. Are there any signs of the teak remaining damp in that area after the rest of the deck is dry?(we removed our teak decks last year)

Hi, Jim,

No - the teak around it appears dry, but I guess even a very small channel between the teak and deck would permit it. Never mind - we'll try again!

Tom,
I am assuming that you mean the box covering the chainplates is filling and leaking down the side of the saloon. Have you tried tracing from the pilot berth i.e. removing the lining (easy) and checking under deck

Beken June 1990

Hi, Jim. Sorry for the late reply - haven't looked in for a couple of weeks. Yes, that IS our boat, whilst in the hands of the previous owner. I've seen the picture before - in fact it's on the wall of the First & Last restaurant in Alderney - but I don't have a copy and would be grateful for one.

If you could e-mail me at tom (at) sperrey (dot) net with your address, I'll send an SAE.

Thanks for taking the trouble, Jim.

I am the proud owner of a fr Sigma 41 named Picnic which i have owned for 8 years. The deck is modified a lot( the cabin entrance is now movedback and you enter into the aft cabin ) Picnic was built -83 but was on the Dusseldorf boatshow -84 and first sold in Germany she has hull nr. 20. There are at least 3 Sigma 41 ìn Sweden, a green ( ex US-boat ), Shogun hull nr 8 ( the 41 on the sales broschyr) in Stockholm and my Picnic in the lake Vanern.

Welcome to the Forum, Lasse. I guess a significant proportion of all Sigma 41s built must now be represented here. Happy sailing!

Whilst on here does anyone know where I could source a couple of replacement interior door hinges of the type used on our boats?

Tom

Another member for the Sigma 41 group. "MEDMERRY II" . 1983 hull nr.014 GBR5542T. Based at Amble Marina, Northumberland. Now in my 15th year of ownership.Wing keel added by previous owner, takes edge off upwind performance, but downwind cruising as if on rails, though lots more fun. Anyone done a complete batteries upward electrical refit?

Allen

Hi there
No website is 'stalled' at the moment - hopefully Black Adder and Nightlife will get it organised one day soon?

Allen welcome

noted your details and hopefully you will find this a useful chat room.
I have got a list now of about 30 with a few unnamed ones that we have heard about.

Think Black Adder is heading for a re-wire - he did his batteries last year.

Roger

Thanks Candida.

i got to sail on Medmerry w/Allen, some years ago. and i can still remember how well she "curved" the waves, sailing on the south west coast of Norway,
The Sigma 41 is a very nice boat.

Hi Allen
Interesting what You wrote about the wingkeel on Your boat. I have been thinking of something like that, because a draft 2.30 m is very difficult in the Swedish archipelago. Whats Your draft now ? Have You any idea how Your keel was changed, could it be that the leadshoe was remowed and recasted into the wings? Anybody else know about these things?

FAYAWAY is 3.5k miles into an opened-ended cruise from San Francisco south. The boat is on the hard at Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Pix are posted at http://picasaweb.google.com/Keeches/LogOfFayaway Diane and I will post about 40 more pix early next week.

We are now heading back to San Francisco for a couple of weeks, and one of the things we intend to bring back is packing material for the packing gland. I am off the boat in San Jose now and do not remember the proper size. Is it 3/8", 9-10mm?
