We did this last year and removed the locker deck. A screw or a cup hook will give added leverage. Just a point though we were removing the teak and not replacing so having removed one cleat i decided to leave teak pads under the cleats and fuel/water filler points. Looks good against the off white nonslip decks. Jim P.S.We have replaced all the teak in the cockpit area.
Are you removing the teak and replacing with deck paint or more teak? When we finally were forced to tackle this problem we discovered that the teak was OK but the ply base that it was bonded to had disintegrated. We painted identifying numbers onto every piece of teak, then removed the whole deck, scraped off the ply backing, cleaned & prepared the deck and teak underside, filling all screw holes in the deck, and refixed the teak through the original holes onto thickened epoxy resin.Screws were then all removed, and holes filled with exoxy and teak pellets.(the only "new" teak used). Seams then had bond-breaker tape in the base and were caulked with Sikoflex's finest. We used a pneumatic caulking gun, which enables Sikoflex to be used in plastic sausages, a huge cost, physical effort, and time saving on mechanical gun cartridges.Once set the deck was power sanded using a belt sander, and detail sander at the margins. Eventually we did the cockpit too.The results exceeded my expectations, and are really stunning. Paint would have been easier and cheaper in both first cost and probbably maintenance long term, but the results from the above effort made local Hallberg owners quite envious, and three years on are still very solid. Good luck with whichever method you choose, it's encouraging to see another 41 getting well deserved TLC. Allen
Update on our anchor windlass. After your help and advice I decided to fit the Lofrans "tigress", using the crash locker for the chain. The plinth is not too difficult to modify as it was originally fitted post deck construction. The plinth box was moulded separately with a raw flange of glass mat left projecting; the locker base was then ground-off and prepared; the "top hat" plinth then had its "brim" resined to the locker base. We are just moulding a new (lower) plinth, and will use a small angle-grinder to "tease-off" the old plinth ,before folowing the original assembly method. Will post any useful information gained. It may be of interest to others that we will fit a radio remote chain counter and control (just introduced by Lofrans). This enables the windlass to be controlled from anywhere on the yacht, useful when short-handed. power for the windlass is through 50sq.mm cables from the main battery to the solinoid controller in the focstle overhead locker. Secondary control cables are very short and simple. Regards and thanks for your help Allen
Anything else I should do with the rigg before departing? (except the normal checks..) The mast seems very solid...
