Hi, been looking for more information on the sigma 41 and found this forum a little while ago. Does anyone have any information on the history of "Tomco" http://www.rightboat.com/SIGMA-YACHTS-SI....../boat-12037072/ Vendor sent me a copy of the survey, seems it may have been flooded at some point.. also problems with tension differences in the bulkhead fwd of the mast? Is this a known weak point?
any information would be helpful.

Many thanks in advance

Sandy

Hello all. I have a 36hp Bukh that was taken off of my boat last summer. It had water in the oil...never had a diagnosis other than could have been a seal failure or cracked block? Still was running when I replaced the engine/transmission with a Yanmar diesel.

I have it on our local "Craig's List"....anyone on this forum interested?

Happy sailing.

Hi Sandy

Sorry not to have rerplied before to your query - the bulkhead problem is not one that I have heard elsewhere - there was a 41 in Nieuwpooert called Graciosa (ex Dulle Krabbe) a year or two ago - wonder if this is the same boat?

Hi Roger and Sandy,
graciosa is still in Nieuwpoort alive and sailing VVW G17.The only thing I know about TOMCO is that she was during the wintertime in Gent Langerbrugge and was for te first time for sale in Nieuwpoort this summer .Graciosa has not any bulkhead problem, but I have maked some basket under the mast with a smal bilgepump . The bilge are dry now .Outside around the mast an old tyre with silicone and this is a waterproof fitting.

Morning, all,

Can anyone help with a fitting problem? While prepping the boat for our forthcoming trip to the Canaries one of our crew dropped one of the anchor locker fittings into the briny and I'm having difficulty fing one.

They are the socket-headed stainless screws with a black plastic mushroom washer that fit into a 30mm hole in the anchor locker lid. One chandler believes it may be called a BB Quick-fit, but I'm unable to locate it on the internet.

It's reasonably urgent as we're hoping to leave this coming weekend.

Regards,

Tom

Fridge Insulation:
I am hearing my compressor working quite a lot despite it being a new one with cooling to a plate outside the hull.
I've cut a small disk out of the plywood behind the port seating to have a look and it appears to be the old 'fuzzy' type that would have been in vogue when built, but probably not too efficient.
Has anybody upgraded the insulation around their fridge ? And if so, how did you gain access ? And relaced existing with ?

When it became apparent that the original refrigeration unit on my Sigma 41 was inadequate in latitudes lower than fifty north, I cut two more ventilation holes in the cupboard under the sink where the unit was housed (with suitable louvred covers). That helped a little - but not much. In the end I had a new unit manufactured and installed in Trinidad by a local manufacturer, Naut-I-Kol usiing the existing chamber and that works fine, but may not be much use to you unless you are en route to the Caribbean ? I noted at the time that a number of suitable units are available on the internet - it's worth paying a bit extra to get a good thermostatic sensor in the cold chamber and sophiticated controls. It wasn't a particularly cheap exercise.

On a different topic, has anyone out there had occasion to replace the B&G Sonic Speed transducers ? If so how was it accomplished and how did it turn out ?

Adrian.
The fridge unit you had was not original but about 1 year old when you bought the boat.

Blimey we all nearly missed that, was that Roger saing he has sold Candida! Are you still viewing these pages Roger? I must say that it will truly be a loss to the forum not having your sensible and informed input.
Have you any plans for a followup boat?
Anyway if it is indeed goodbye :( thanks for all the help and all the best
Jon

Yes Candida has new owners in N Ireland, and is berthed close to Hideaway (another 41) so all is not lost!

I have succumbed to the charms of a Nordic Folkboat to go racing in - but will still watch these pages - and miss my S41 dreadfully!

Ah nice boat, well sad to see you going but, very appreciative of the help over the years. I recall you saying that you had a rough list of S41 names and owners, perhaps you can forward to me and I will likewise to any other interested party and we can try and keep it current?
I trust you put the new owners of Candida onto our group?!
cheers

Here's one for you guys, has anyone on the forum fitted a Hydrovane self steering gear. How did you fit it, on centre line or off-and if so by how much.-is it ok? Do you get any problems with turbulence from the main rudder. Did you need to build the pads out so as to increase the distance from main rudder to steering rudder (longitudinally) -they are saying 8 inches min. Did you use the single top strut or the two brackets?
Thanks for any feedback.
On another matter I have Rogers list of S41's and some info on owners and location if anyone has any updates or wishes a copy let me know. I never knew that MH's are so much in the minority, all you fractional racers out there!
best
Jon
