FWIW I had a Sigma 362 which is simply a little sister to the 41 and the Hyrovane was fitted centrally. Worked brilliantly. Just use blocks as in the usual Hyrovane pics and all will be perfect. Can't remeber if the transom was reinforced but it's probably worth beefing it up a tad.

I now have a Dehler 39 with a vane fitted and this has a rudder much further aft than the S41 and it still works well. If your vane is around 2 years old or less you will have the new rudder which is a bit fatter for more lift and with the hole a smidge further back to balance it better. Visually not much difference but according to Will at Hydrovane a decent performance enhancement. You will love it.

Thanks for that. What sort of gap do you have now between main and steering rudder? Jon

Hi Jon:
I recently bougth in Chile a S41 hull nÂș J1055 launched in 1985 masthead rig. She was named before "Obssesion" (now "Maquita"). Do you have any antecedent of it in your records? She is now based in Valparaiso.
This forum is being fabulous to know much more about these wonderfull boats.
Best regards

Miguel

Hi Miguel

On the list I had the only record of 'Obsession' is that she was originally USA based and that the owner was 'Luis' -

Thank you Roger. I think Luis is not viewing these pages anymore and I don't have his email or other antecedents.

"Maquita" is under a complete refit and refurbish process, new instruments, new motor, etc.
Does anyone have copy of a 41 boat drawings that
can e-mail me please ?

Regards,
Miguel

Hi all,
Have any of you still with Bukh engines ever had a problem with diesel in the sump.It has happened once last season and once this season. I think I have the answer but I just wonder if anyone else had the problem.

Hi Jim,

I have had the problem, in my case it was the O-ring behind the injectionpump that was leaking. To solve the problem I had to take the injection pump off ( be careful not to turn the injectionpump )

Hello All,
I've got a problem! Well maybe I've got a problem? I took the teak off of the anchor hatch cover this fall and stored it in our garage. This week I took moisture readings of the cover and found levels to be extremely high. I then drilled five cores 1 1/2" in diameter and found the balsa to be intact but then I microwaved one inside of a ziploc plastic bag and found a lot of moisture released.

Question, I haven't metered the actual decks as I just started taking some of the teak off and found moisture between the non-skid and the plywood veneer of the teak, are the decks cored or are they solid?

I know many of you have dealt with teak deck failures and some have redone the non-skid and some have reapplied the teak but I don't recall anyone discussing moisture in the deck core.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Rick.
As far as I am aware the decks are solid and not cored. We removed the teak completely and applied non slip deck paint. While the teak is in situ it will take months to dry out and is almost impossible to repair.

The deck is not cored in any area where the teak decking was applied. Thus the top of the house is, I think, cored, but the entire area that was covered in teak, including the anchor locker cover, is not cored. They were clever, those Plymouth Boat Yard folks.

HI guys. I'm feeling a bit better. I can assure you the anchor locker cover is cored. I used a hole saw and there is indeed balsa sandwiched between non-skid gel-coated fiberglass on the top and fiberglass on the bottom. Also, the sail locker in the cockpit is covered with teak but appears to be cored, as does the lazerette. You can tell there is coring if you look on the underside when you open these up. It makes sense as these need to be lighter as they're lifted yet still need structural integrity? I did pull some teak from the deck and unscrewed some stainless steel screws...but I couldn't tell looking at these holes if there was any coring.

Did you guys have anyone take moisture readings after the teak was removed? My decks seem very stiff but so does the anchor locker cover yet that does have moisture and balsa sandwich.

I'm hopeful!!!

Rick
