Anybody know if this problem carries over to Focus diesel (TDDi). Recommended change is 100k I'll probably get it done at 60k or is this too long?

If Ford are quoting 100k miles then it can't have the same problem, they quote 36k for mine and THAT isn't always soon enough.

On the focus I think you will find a nice duplex chain driving up to the injection pump, the drive to the camshaft is then taken via a timing belt from the pump in a similar manner to the old 1.6 engine. As this belt has no other loads its life will be greater.

My H reg Escort 1.8TD Failed early as well, we were supposed to replace a plastic sprocket with a modified one, the mechanic said he had, but obviously had not. Cost us £800 for new head and valves, we were stranded in south Wales whilst the job was done.

JMD I'm so sorry to hear about the failure, but you may be interested to know about the Ford modification - a STEEL idler gear to replace a Nylon Gear - Payable by Ford Customers?.....
