Ive just read how GEORGE GALLOWAY..(Yes THAT idiotfrom celebrity big brother..) Wants to BAN Staffordshire bull terriers now!? The Kennel Club are apparently fighing the staffs corner but what a stupid thing to say!? is there not enough problems in the world to be thinking about in his job withouth resorting to thinking which breed to BAN next?!! I feel sorry for owners of pit bulls thats for sure - they must get the most stick of all from what im reading. http://www.stopdogattacks.com/please-dont-let......-kill-staffies/
Please check the link out!!!! Kels x

there will always be something they are pushing for a ban on. once they get there way they will just move on to something else. only thing i can think of is these people have never had pets so have never experienced what its like to love or be loved by a dog the way that we have and don't understand the heart ache and distress at the very thought of having something they truly care about being taken away from them. if its child safety they are concerned about i think they should spend there time trying to stop school bullying and parent abuse as this happens every day of every week.

i'm 41 with 5 children aged 20 down to 4 yrs old. i have owned german shepherds most my life, but last year lost our tess at the age of 10 to the big c. wern't going to get another dog (kids & hubby, done my head in, nag nag nag) so they ganged up and i agreed we could have another, but a small dog, along came "porky pup" as he was called by his breeder. the largest in the litter, awww, he's so cute. he's 15 months now, called champ, wrecked my garden(can be replaced) eats pop bottles(plastic, never put an empty one down, it disappears) dread to think what the recycling men think. he likes chewing wood, my gazebo last year. what did i say, i told you it was a mistake to buy a STAFFIE. But i wouldnt part with him. he loves the kids, likes chasing the little one's scooter wheels(when she's on it) sleeps on the settee when she's sleeping on it and he loves everyone who comes here. there's more danger in a flag pole than him.lol, please sign the petition above

After living with big fierce dogs! GSD's, I was cross at myself when dropping off my daughter last summer to a friends house. They had recently got a new dog, being dog owners previously. Their new dog was a puppy staffie. Sadly on my behalf, I saw the 'dangerous' breed before i saw the cute pup. Several times i went round for a coffee and to leave my daughter - would swap for cute staffie - eventually I saw the dog for what she is, cute, fun, playful if not slightly boisterious around kids (she bowled into my retriever when they were both puppies and my goldie flew through the air with the powerful strength of this pup!-this was not malice just play) After living with GSD's and having the stigma of a fierce dog, people crossing the street etc., I was really cross at myself, in the hands of good responsible owners this is a lovely pup and will be a lovely dog. Rather than target breeds, those in the know should target irresponsible people - agree on the parents and kids/school thing as well, too many knivies, drugs and not enough done!

i totally agree. i knew one person who had a staff and he was excellent with his two kids ( 2yr old & new born). he gave him away due to work and his wife not having time for the dog. but 3 mths later had him back, wasnt being looked after the way they looked after him, and he was pining for his master. i know mine would pine for my hubby if we had to let him go, he's like the little boy he never had ( aww what a pity we had 5 girls) i think he was feeling left out with all us females. lol. another friend had 7 staffies all in one go, said they loving, affectionate and loyal dogs but can be destructrive, chew anything. we;ve had it lucky i suppose.he still cant believe my woodwork inside house is still in one piece after 15 months. the picture i got on top is when we had him at 4 wks &3 days. was checked by a vet and was ok to leave mum. we took him back to breeder so she could see him at 6 mths and she cried when we left. we were thinking about breeding him, but with that idiot trying to ban the breed whats the point. whats next Chihuahuas. i love the picture of the pup doing the dishes, wish my kids would learn how to use mine. lol

Staffies as a rule, make great family pets, great with kids, However, I would say to anyone even considering buying one to do your homework first. Goto a breeder with years of experience, not someone who wants to make a quick few quid by cashing in on the current "fashion". Far too many people these days have staffs for the wrong reasons, cos they look "hard" with the "I,m hard me, I,ve got a staff"! attitude. Its such a shame cos people like this are giving the breed avery bad name and its not the dogs fault. They are being bred with brothers, sisters etc just to make a fast proffit with no thort for the dog, they,re inheriting problems from inbreeding then being sold to idiots that havent got a clue how to look after them. Theres a beautiful one by us, never leaves his owners side, when you look close you see why, he,s obviously had the crap kicked out of him, when the owner speaks to him the dog cowers, this is so wrong. I do believe something needs to be done about the amount of staffs out there, but I mean crack down on the breeders that dont give a damn, how? I dont know, but I,m guilty too of walking the other way when I,m out with my 3 dogs and someone with a staff off a lead walks towards us, its a shame for the owner and the dog that just wants to play, but after having my dogs attacked many times by staffs belonging to idiots that egg the dog on I just dont wait around to find out whether the dogs (or owner) is friendly. Sad I know but thats just the way it is these days. People need to think first, as with any terrier, staffs can be very stubborn and difficult to train and often not the best first dog to own (terriers in general, not an attack on staffs). If anyone out there is thinking about taking one on, please consider a rescue as the most dumped breed at the mo are staffs and rescue centres are packed full of them. Staffs are magnificent, proud dogs that are having their reputation ruined by idiots and its just not fair!... but thats just my opinion!

we tried rescue centres back last year, but only had crosses and didnt know what they were crossed with. so we decided to buy one off a breeder, registered with kennel club so we had papers etc, had him micro-chipped and the only time he's not with myself & hubby is when my oldest 2 take him out on the understanding, they go somewhere there are no other animals,i know from word of mouth off other people & owners, they do have a tendancy to be a bit boisterous towards other animals and rather than take that chance and loose my dog he stays on the lead. otherwise he's great, affectionate, great with the kids, even my neighbours 16 mth old baby

hello everyne im a loving staffy owner, i got mine from a rescue and my little boy zues has been as good as gold, if someoen offerd me millions i would turn my nose upto it i would never leave him he is as much of a part of my life than anythink else, he wouldnt hurt a fly and i really mean it he loves having my friends dogs over even if he hasnt met them he protects my brothers newborn baby from any starngers he also lets my younget sisters hamster run over his back and onto his head wen he is laying down, he even likes cats, now i understand through years of breeding they have became a tad agresive towards other dogs, but i really d think that its all down to the owner if u have he/she form a puppy u can think for them u can make them be friendly towards other dogs its calles socialising! my boy came to me un-trained i have now tought him every trick in the trade to stand on back legs to ask for his dinner to stay lay come walk close run ahead, i kno its hard but my dog loves to work and train and he knows when he has achieved a new goal, he also loves his 2 hour walks a day, if there is anythink i can do r sign to help then please let me kno x luke x

Awww what a lovely pic. I have a staff were I work (called Tallulah lol) n she's so lovely, licks your legs if they got cream on which is a bit gross lol, but theres no aggressiona in her at all. The only dangerous dogs are the ones that have been taught to act like by there terrible owners. What an idiot. Probly only doing it for a bit of publicity, obv big brother didn't work. He obviously hasn't had a pet... Otherwise he would know that's these dogs to the good owners (not the tw*ts who make them aggresive for fights, etc) are members of their family. Surely he wouldn't gt away with doing that. Whats he gonna do confiscate every staff in the country??? He won't have the money or the space.

Are all staffies these days on the large size?? Mum had one 40 odd years ago and she was so small she was called Tiny. I know I was about9/10 when she died but I remember carrying her around like a baby lol . I asked mum yesterday what breed she was cos I thought we only ever had mongrels but mum said they got papers with her from previous owner

I just want to say that I have a staffy and she is as loving as a dog comes. If the government spent more time researching what they 'think' they knew about they would realise that staffie's are 'social' dogs and love children. Like previously explained by another, they should be looking at the environment the dog is brought into, not just attempting to give a breed a bad name. Like others have said, spend more time on the important things like bullying in schools!!!!

erm excuse me staffies dangerous ???????????? like since when exactly did this happen
staffies are not dogs they are people as in staffie people these dogs have a unique personality not found in any other dog to call them canine is almost an insult 0)
i have worked with literally 100,s poss even thousands and have only around 5 i would trust an inch and they were due to evil owners
how abut this a***h*** galloway bans that type of owners much more sensible dont you think if he thinks staffies are dangerous then he has never owned one nor met a properly bought up staff
i would far rather own a staff or a pit than i would a jr (not slating them but terriers are flipping unpredicatable to say the least )
when we got our pup (not a staffie) we did discuss getting a staff but hubby like me isnt essentally a small dog person but i will have one one day as staffs are my ultimate dog every time i see one i have to fuss it
and to the question about them having got bigger yes they have which i really dont agree with the old time staff is small and stocky and a true staff they have been breed bigger to x breed with pits for fighting hence the bad name pfft ban them owners not the dogs

i also know of 100 jrs most of which arent that nice and collies to most lovely some not so so why pick on staffies

I have had a few dogs over the years and about a year ago I got a staffy, she was 2 years old when I got her, she looks a bit different cos she has a hair lip and cleft palate but she is such a lovely dog and is brilliant with my 2 children aged 4 & 5, I am now thinking about getting another one, but when I take her out for a walk people always cross the road so they don't have to walk passed her and people have said to me that she should be muzzled and that really pi##es me off
