Hi all,
Please can anyone tell me if I would need to take my car to the garage to reset the service lights after an oil change or will the car do this its self??....

You have a couple of options here,
1st is to go to a garage and ask them to clear the service lights.
2nd is to buy the tool and do it yourself these used to be expensive but are quite cheap nowadays, obviously the 2nd option is only any good if you plan to keep the car a while or buy another bmw for repeat use of the tool.
Actually there's a 3rd option if memory serves you can get a bit of wire and earth out if memory serves terminal 7 of the diagnostic socket and it does the same thing but of course if you earth the wrong pin it could be bad ....
thus I dont normally mention this option but everyone deserves to know anyway.
