hi, just thought i'd let you know about the campsite we always use. Penrose farm touring park, its just out site perranporth in a little village called Goonhavern, only takes familys and couples but thats why we love it so much, dogs welcome. really flat, mature trees and planted hedges, there's a shop and take away on site, we used it a lot this year really handy. Got a play area, we always ask for that field handy for the kids. The main reason why we go there all the time is that its so well located just five mins to perranporth 10 mins drive in to newquay, on the back road to truro it only takes about 10 mins. just found ther website itssssss http://www.penrosefarm.co.uk happy camping

Pentewen sands is good , but agree it can be blustery at times , if you like animals , go and take a look at Trencreek farm ( hewas water ) only about 6 miles from where you are staying , we havn't been for a good few years but it used to be a very magical place , something about the people and the animals , and central for Mevagissy ( which is great , especially in the evenings ) plus St Austell etc , but not too far to drive to lots of other attractions .

Hi.. I know a great place to try, we have been going there for a few years now, this year we have even put our caravan down there for the season and they store it for you when the season has ended, saves lugging a caravan all the time. Its called trencreek farm in St austel part of surfbay leisure group. Its a great place, fairly big (56 acres) and loads for the kids to do on site if you feel like a lazy day. Its got its own swimming pool, farm, parks including football pitch, swings etc, kids rooms for toddler (which is great for our kids but so hard to get them out, they would stay there for the full holiday given half a chance) and they also have a room for the big kids with pool tables and table tennis. They also have fishing pools. It has its own shop, pub and restarant on site and if you fancy something lite they have a food wagon on site most nights. All showers, baths are clean and free of charge (other places ive been to, you have to buy tokens to use bath or showers) toilets are clean, they also have wash area for washing dishes for tent pitchers etc, washing machines and dryers facilities. Pets are also welcome. They have electric hook up pitches and non hook up pitches depending on what people want (pitches are fairly big, so you are not squashed to your neigbour. You can go in your own tents, caravans, motorhomes what ever. They also have for hire static caravans, bungalows and wood cabins, which look fantastic, depending what facilities you want, they can accomadate your needs with there different graded statics. The great thing about this place is your local to beaches and fairly local to shops etc, you are only approx 5 miles from St austel town centre where there is a asda, homebase, mcdonalds, pizza hut and petrol stations. In the main town centre there is all the usual shops and banks. Its great you feel like you are out in the sticks but really your only local to town centre so no hunting for foods shops and paying over the top prices in corner shops when there is a asda local. The number for trencreek farm is 01726882560 or visit there web site, google search entering trencreek farm, its part of surfbay leisure group. You can take a virtual tour on the website which will show you around the whole site and will show you round the different graded hire accommodation they have, they also have a photo gallery of the animals etc. Hope this helps.

Hi joanne , i have already posted about trencreek , great to meet someone else who has experienced the place , can beat you though (: we used to go before it was taken over by the big guns ! many , many , years ago when still owned by David and Jane , it was very casual and very magical especially with all the animals who just roamed round the camp , have you seen any pics of past animals , we used to be visited , by wellington the donkey , boney and cleo the goats , flash the sheep , hissing sid and the incredible hulk ( turkeys ) and thumper the rabbit who always slept with the goats , ducks , chickens etc , it was there that one of there people put my three year old daughter on his horse and said she was going to be a natural ( got into horses when she was six , and he was right ) have this real urge to go back this year ( after 20 years ( we did go back 4 years running though ) my hubby celebrated his 40th at trencreek farm and is 60 this year ) now for a BIG BUT ! this is where you can really help out , we are scared the atmosphere won't be the same now it is more commercialised , and we will be dissapointed ???? it used to be fairly peacefull when we went as always did the end of june to first week in july , would be great to hear more of your experiences .

Hi.. Yes its very peacefull there, no loud music etc, i go there a fair few times a year from season opening in march to closing of season which is end of october and i carnt say ive ever heard loud music etc, its a great family place and everybody is very friendly staff and campers, i think this is why its liked by alot of people there, i get the feeling from your message that years ago the animals used to run free around the site?? If this is the case then no they dont anymore, the animals have there own pens etc around the site so there is much to see around the whole site, except the hens etc they run free, but they have feeding time where the children can go around with the staff and the children can feed the animals and they tell you a little about the animals, our caravan is on the lower donkey field so we have the goats right by us which is lovely cos my 2 year old goes out in the mornings and feeds them grass, up the top of the field there is more goats (white goats), donkeys and over the other side a miniture shetland pony and alpacas, there is also pigs. Other animals include alpacas, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, kune kune pigs, hens and cockerals. There web site is very usefull will show you all the animals and there names and all the facilities they have. I dont no what to say really its a nice relaxed atmosphere and not as commercialised as some places we have been to, this is why we tend to go back there every year, i used to go in a big tent with the kids but this year we brought a nice little cheap caravan and put it down there for the season and seasons to come, its much nicer to arrive there and everything is ready for you, instead of spending hours pitching a tent and unpacking. I would recommend it and have to many of my friends and they have liked it, but as its been a long time since you have last been, of course it will be different you can only but give it a try, see how its changed from all that time ago. I will say its very clean and the grass well maintained compared to other places i have been, this i why i rather go there and its not really to far to visit other places people have mentioned. Hope this helps or message if i can help with anything else. Jo

Hi Jo, thanks , don't worry we were so in love with the place that we have kept up with whats going on there over the years , just wondered about the atmosphere as the original owners were very much a part of what went on , and we were sad to hear that they had sold up , and yes the animals used to roam around , we had some great laughs with them and have some brilliant pics of the donkey in our awning and the goats and donkey with their head through the caravan door waiting for some apple etc , and the sheep were a nightmare ! they were all shocked our second year when we turned up with a new baby ( yes her middle name could be trencreek ) may meet you there one day , you never know , you'll soon recognise Toby and Sammy as they would come too ( even Sam was named after a gorgeous gsd that we met at trencreek , who sadly had to be pts at a very young age through illness )

Hi I've actually been to one of the john fowler sites in perranporth,we found it ok.We stayed in one of the houses, which was clean and everythig but we found them quite un-child friendly if theres such a word.lol..My son at the time was about 18 months old and was into everything as they are at that age and when we went to the club at night they expected him to just sit at the table. There was a couple of things really that put us off but i'm sure they're not all the same. Thanks for the suggestion though. :o)
