first of all i doubt facebook made you get pop-ups
you should run a adware/spyware scan using spybot search and destroy and get rid of any problems
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-D......4-10122137.html

second if you are using internet explorer, you should switch to firefox (Firefox suffers less from popups and scripts)

SOMEONE SAID THAT YOU WILL NOT GET POPUP MESSAGES FROM FACBOOK, WELL IF IT DID NOT HAPPEN BEFORE AND IT HAPPENS NOW THEN YES ITS FROM FACEBOOK PARTNERS AND THEY HAVE PLACED A TRACKING COOKIE ON YOUR PC EVERYTIME YOU VISIT A CERTAIN SITE.

DELETE THE COOKIE, IF YOU CANNOT DELETE THE COOKIE THEN YOU CAN DELETE THE ENTRY IN REGEDIT, BE CAREFULL WHEN DELETEING IN REGEDIT, GO TO START RUN AND TYPE IN REGEDIT, GO TO EDIT AND SEARCH NEXT, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DELETE, SAY FACEBOOK, IN THE SEARCH BOX PUT IN FACEBOOK AND SEARCH, WHEN SEARCH FINDS FACEBOOK DOUBLE CLICK AND DELETE, HIT F3 AGAIN TO SEARCH AND DELETE OK, BE CAREFULL.

Hi Janine,

First of all, you need to get rid of anything Norton related, the box it came in is more useful than the software. you'll find that your system might run a little better too. Use AVG free instead (google it), and stay away from spybot as was recommended by someone else, thats just as bad, and potentially spyware on its own. If you can get your system into 'safe mode' (hold down F8 whilst windows is booting), run the suggested regedit scans from there, and then get hold of firefox.

Just experience, its more like malware. Just for fun and to prove I wasn't imagining it, I installed it on a totally clean, fresh built PC. the result? Over 100 threats! Windows defender doesn't like it either. mind you that doesn't like anything that isn't Microsoft. I've never had a good experience with S S&D. I found this quote just to back me up:

"When installed on a PC, Spybot opens a back door in the system and connects to an internet relay chat (IRC) server to let the remote attacker control the compromised computer. Spybot first surfaced in 2003 and has spawned many offshoots.

Bot software such as Spybot is the most prevalent threat to Windows PCs, according to a recent Microsoft security report. More than 43,000 new variants of such insidious programs were found in the first half of 2006, making it the most active category of malicious software, Microsoft said."

Hi Dora,

Idle curiosity got the better of me, so I signed up to see if I got the same thing. nothing yet, but I'll keep tabs and update you. I googled "facebook virus" and got some interesting results. Try it.

It's all new to me, facebook isn't really my thing but I have some concerns with any website that can gain access, authorised or not, to my contacts list. Just don't click anything that seems like an unusual request.

Pete
