Ok I seem to have a problem, the car has passed the mot, I took a look under the bonnet for the first time since getting the car I only had it 2 days before the mechanic took it for mot.

I seem to have a rather suspicious looking suspension bracket under the bonnet

See the pictures here. http://www.schoolsrecycle.org/thecar.aspx

Now my questions are,

Is it safe?
Can it be fixed?
And how much?

Thanks

peter

jesus christ. how on earth did that pass an mot. did the tester have a white stick. dont drive it mate cos its not safe. you will need to buy a turret repair top. remove the strut, cut away all the rot. seal it with zink spray then sit the new top over the old one and weld it all the way round.

it looks awfully like a dodgy mot to me, no mechanic/tech mot trained or not could miss that thats assuming someone actually looked.
i assume you have bought the car "as seen" ide be inclined to report whoever signed the mot to to the revelent authorities, and do the repair that ian advises thats bloody dangerous. plainly never followed the vosa regulations

by the way you can check the authenticity of your mot on here

Somebody knew about this well in advance as it's got a big nobby bracket fitted to it by some bodge it brother !
As Ian says this is seriously dangerous, and a decent sized pothole will have the displacer/sphere ripped out and smashed through the bonnet and you possibly out of control into who knows what.
Been a while since I've seen something this bad on a car as these cars are normally very good for resisting rust.
I'm afraid the mot'r must have been poked in the eye with a jaggy stick before looking at that one.
Bottom line whoever sold you this new that was a serious problem !
