hi, iv had rovers all my life from metro's to p6's and have only had few problems but been able to fix myself but i have recently bought a k reg rover 416 gsi which is a lovely car but i have developed a problem which i cant diagnos. the car will start fine wen cold an run great untill it has warmed but then if i try to accelerate from a stand still the engine will lose revs an die and its a real bugger to start again. any ideas guys i gotta try an fix the little twat on monday

Check the temp sender cold & hot there should be a difference of 1k. Should be around 200-300 when hot. Any lower you are not getting enough fuel any higher you are getting too much. Also check it at the ecu to make sure there are no broken wires. If you dont have a meter then just replace it as they are only around £10.

hi brian, thanks for replyin, where will i find this temp sensor. the muppet who had this car before me has chopped the air inlet hose down to fit an after market induction kit, so will this have any effect on the sensor. it seems to me like the choke is stuck on. any help or advise you can give is greatly appreciated..

You will find it at the top hose connection on the engine. A faulty temp sender will give the impression of a stuck choke. Best just replace it with new, it unscrews so an easy job.
