Hi
I'm very new to anything to do with cars but I'm willing to learn.
My Rover 600 is making a grinding noise from the back break (drivers side) had all 4 disks & pads installed about 18 months ago.

1) Do they only last for this amount of time?
2) How do I check the pads for wear?
3) If its the pads how easy is it to install them yourself?
4) If its fairly straight forward please could someone point me in the right direction were I could find out how too install the pads myself and what tools I might require.

Thanks

Hi, i would usually expect the front pads to wear first. you can't really put a time limit on the life of the pads, it's down to the type of driving you do (motorway or town ) and how hard you use them.
it's possible that your rear caliper has seized on, or the hand brake isn't releasing properly this would cause premature wear.

if you haven't worked on cars before, the brakes are probably not the best place to start, no offence meant. perhaps get a more experienced friend to have a look, and learn from him. good luck.

I want to really learn on how to do this myself, I live in the middle of no where and i'm totally skint so I would like to try to fit the pads myself.

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.
