Could I have some advice, I have a vauxhall astra y reg, and I have been told it is suffering from sticky valves, I have been back to the garage about 5 times, at first the diagnostic came up with misfire on cylinder 1 which he put a new coil pack in this was fine for 2 weeks then the management light came on again, he then ran a fuel cleaner through as the same diagnostic came up again for cylinder 1, fine for 2 weeks, then it came on again this time he put something in to clean the valves, he said alot of crap had come out of the exhaust due to this cleaner, so again fine for 3 weeks this time and its back again. This time he said he will clean all the valves said something about he has to bore out the valves, this is going to cost me about £3- 400 he also asked if I had the cam belt changed which i did in oct 06 will this fix my problem, it is a nightmare, as I can get around town but dread coming to any junctions or roundabouts, but i cannot do motorways as the management light comes on and I get no power, can someone please give me some advice, every time I get the diagnostic it always comes up with misfire on cylinder 1, can anyone please help, and will paying £400 solve the problem.

hi.i had the exact same prob with mine.[astra 1.6sxi 01]management lite came on,power loss.no acceleration strange noise from exhaust etc.took 2 garage n they hooked it up n it cited egr valve at 1st.got that replaced ]£130] and was ok 4 a week.came on again.took bak n it came up misfire cylinder 4.had coil pak replaced [£130] and also had the throttle body blown throo.was fine again 4 a few weeks then same happened again.took it 2 a v/haull specialist and he ran a diagnostic on it
[£40]came bak misfire cylinder 4 and told me the valves wer stikn.carbon build up in early stages.put a gas/engine flush throo[forte gas flush £12.95 4 400ml]this until now[3months l8r]seems 2 hav worked in the short term, but long term if valves are starting 2 stick, the only sure fire way of fixn them is 2 either get them drilled,or get brand new valves put in,and at the same time hav the piston rings done at the same time.ive bin quoted £550 4 the valves n £150-£250 4 the rings.so i suggest u can try a gas flush 2 start with.wait til u hav bout a qrtr tank, add flush throo n then top up wiv more petrol.these do work and will help release the carbon deposit build up.cood also suggest if u hav the means trade in 2 a garage n get sufin else.mines is modified so i"ll jst be getn wot needs dun.but fingrz crossed, with putn the flushes throo its bin fine so far.hope this has bin of sum help n let me no how u g8 on.

Hi there, I finally got my car fixed, it cost me £185 to have the valves drilled, it now runs like a brand new car its ace and the petrol consumption has improved so much its brill I would so recommend having this done straight away.
