Sad!!

I only read the first 5 ads and two were dispicable! First one: Man selling two 10 week old puppies and their mum free to a good home when puppies have gone!! Second one: 3 year old Jack Russell bitch, being sold cos they live in the country and she likes to chase sheep so cannot be walked off lead! It amazes me how these people have the nerve! I stopped looking cos it makes me so upset! My jack russell is a real handful, but I would never think of getting rid of her! Sometimes I just have to sit and laugh or I would cry and never stop!! Especially after the fifth time she has jumped a five foot fence and ran off down the street after our cat!!

I wouldn't even contemplate getting rid of any of mine just because i was pregnant.. unless it was because i was incredibly poor, but in that case you probabaly shouldn't have the pets in the first place if you were. And to just give an animal away free to a "good home" is plain ignorance. It's just a bargain to people who can't actually afford to buy and look after animals. I don't think these ads should ever get published! There we go i've said it! Nix and co xxx

Whats more is elderly dogs. Why do people think that once their dog gets old that it's not worth having anymore and send it off to a shelter. When i was volenteering at the RSPCA there were more elderly dogs left tied at the end of the lane without food or water, just left, just because they were old and the owners think lets get rid of this old useless dog and buy a new puppy. It's sick! Nix and co xxx

There are a lot of opportunists out there - if you advertise your animal free to a good home, you will not necesserily end up with the right type of person to rehome to..but there are a few genuine people out there too! :-) Also just for the record, i love oldies too - i really dont understand people who have a cat or dog for 8yrs or so, then decide to rehome/abandon it! Why bother keeping it for that long in the first place?! If it wasnt for the fact that i would know their last days were imminent, i would love to foster oldies. They are amazing animals, i just find it so painful when they inevitably get ill or die. ___________________ Love me..Love my animals! :-p

I am amazed by people who want to offload their jacks just because they cannot handle them. my view is, if you cannot train one do not get one. these dogs are the most loyal and fun dogs of any breed if brought up with lots of love and discipline.

i seen a advert a while ago about a st bernard that keeps chasing the sheep so they are selling it. St bernards arnt designed to go on farm and arnt the brightest of animals, you think people would pick a dog for what it can do and not because it looks nice.

As for chasing sheep - as sed before, dont let it offlead near to livestock. My cocker chases sheep, well, anythign which moves really! I just dont let her offlead in fields which are close. Some people really do not have the common sense they were born with - most of the excuses on the classifieds are treatable, they just cant be bothered to take the time to train etc..then they go and buy another puppy!! Give me a ready-trained oldie, anyday! lol The rat poison death sounds horrendous. We had that left out for our cats by a neighbour and it made them very ill. Didnt kill them though, luckily. It was removed after i voiced very loudly and publicly that i woudl be prosecuting should any of them die...!! ___________________ Love me..Love my animals! :-p

I'm one of the terrible people you've discussed who's rehoming their dog because I'm pregnant and I just wanted to give you the perspective from my side. While I agree that reasons such as chasing sheep are poor excuses it's hard to fully go into the reasons in a short advert so please don't prejudge, the advert my husband placed on here can't possibly reflect how upset we are about having to rehome our dog. It's not just that I'm pregnant but we also have another much smaller dog, the 2 of them get on well but very occasionally the dog we're rehoming attacks her. The fights are frightening and would probably have resulted in the death of our smaller dog had we not been around to physically seperate them. She has needed to see a vet several times and I've had to go to A&E after being inadvertently bitten when trying to seperate them. What if that had been our baby caught in the middle? I don't feel that either of our dogs would have ever deliberately harmed our baby but when the dog attacks she goes into a blind rage and doesn't see what gets in her way, other than this she is such a gentle loving dog who's so well behaved. We've tried everything to stop this happening and the fights have got less frequent but still happen up until the last one about a month ago. Our vet told us some time ago that this behaviour is natural with 2 bitches and there's little we could do, the kindest option would be to rehome our dog before one of them was seriously hurt and we've put it off for a long time as we couldn't face letting her go. We have not rehomed our dog because she's an inconvenience or because it's the easy option. Believe me it would have been far easier to do nothing and manage by keeping our dog away from the other dog and our baby but what kind of life would it be for her to be shut away on her own all the time. Instead we've tried to do the right thing and it's been far from easy. I will miss our dog so much, she went to her new home last night and I can't believe she's not my dog anymore. I've hardly slept through worrying about her and have been so upset at the thought of letting her go my family have been worried about the health of me and my unborn baby. We had our dog 5 years and I loved her to bits, she was constantly at my side and rehoming her is the hardest thing I've ever done. We advertised her on here after spending months fruitlessly asking family and friends if they could give her a home. I couldn't face just handing her over to kennels particularly as we got her from kennels when she was 6 months old and she seemed terrified there. We thought that advertising her free to a good home was the right thing to do since we didn't want to make money out of her but after seeing the posts on here I'm terrified that this was the wrong decision. We've tried to make sure she's gone to a good home and took her to meet her new owners several times before she went permanently but I'm so worried they won't treat her well. We've made it clear if things don't work out we want her returning to us but now she's not our dog anymore we don't have any say. We will be phoning them to see how she is and they've been kind enough to say we're welcome to go see here which I would love to do but don't know if this is best for the dog, will it just confuse her? Our dog has always been good around kids and she would have been great with our baby I'm sure. I feel it's good for kids to be brought up around pets and when our baby is old enough he/she will be taught to respect animals and to be gentle with our remaining dog and to leave her alone when she doesn't want to be disturbed. Before our baby is born I will be taking our dog so see my little neice regularly so she's used to kids as I don't want her to feel confused when the baby arrives. Sorry for the long rambling post but I just wanted to put the views of someone rehoming their dog across and ask that we are not all tarred with the same brush.
