I have a few problems with my 55sx 1.1 punto, firstly the past few days the dashboard thermometer is rising alot faster than normal (more noticable when the car is running but stationary) it cools down to a "normal" temp when in motion tho, any ideas what the problem may be? it isnt really losing water to much just the normal for a 10yr old car,

also my horn has broke any ideas the cost to replace this? and there is no cover on my timing belt and im worried because its exposed to the elements it may break at any time,

ALSO.........the engine is "losing" oil here and there and its noticable on the engine although currently not causing a problem but obv its leaking from somewhere.

Please help !

Hi, the temp gauge used to rise quite a bit when stationary in a fiat cinquecento sporting that I had a few months ago but it was fine when driving normaly, so I don't really think it's much to worry about unless it starts getting in to the red, the oil could be leaking from anywhere really, but I would guess it's the rocker cover gasket, hope this helps.

I've had this problem also, it seems all older cars have the problem of over heating whilst stationary. That was just the technology back then. However, due to this, fiat engines were designed to flow water continually, be it cold or hot, this causes problems when it starts to over heat the oil seeps out of every little gap possible as all the joints are expanded.
Another problem to look out for on the older fiats are the rear suspension arms. These tend to work loose causing "considerable" wear to tyres. Other words, its an excuse to fail you on the MOT. Hope this helps

Sorry to hear of your problems, but it does not sound too bad.
Despite whats been said, its not normal for an old car to overheat whilst stationary. The technology to keep the water temp constant has been the same since the 1960's.
To stop it running too cold it needs the thermostat.
To stop it running too hot it needs an electric fan and a temperature sensor.
Leave you car stationary and keep revs at 3000+ and check if the fan comes on when the temp gets to about 95c. No fan working?, then either temp switch or fan or fuses connections are the problem.

hi, LB is right,,,but with these punto,s people just top up the radiator if its low,,,punto,s need the system bleeding if they get to low ,,,so if you top it up it will have air locked in the system ,,then it will start to overheat ..either when idleing or in motion...cheers...moz
