just wondered if anyone has come across this problem. 2 or 3 times every night i hear someone say what sounds like hello then some muffled voices (dont sound english) and the someone starts laughing. tonight it went on longer than normal and at the end people start clapping. no media running. hit ctrl, alt and del and no programmes running but noise still coming from speakers. havnt got a clue how to fix it if i can't find where its coming from. the first time it happened i was in another room and thought someone was in my house. its realy spooky.

Did you maybe have a webpage open? Some have those smiley site ads and they make sounds like that while you are on that page, they are annoying as hell.

i know the ones you mean but this sounds more like a recording. it does it with no web pages open. can go all night and only happen once and the next night it can happen twice in less than 5 minutes. been using pc,s for over 10 years now and have never come across anything like this. just dont understand how it can happen when no programmes are running. not even internet explorer. thanks for your interest.

Well OH is a pc tech and he says he is a bit stumped then too and he has been fixing and playing with pc's since he was a kid on the most basic systems. He says unless the speakers are picking up some kind of interferance and if no voice enabled programs are running then god knows. He says though he has never had interferance like that on any of his.Out of interest what type of speakers do you have?

thanks for the replies. only me and gf in house and she does not have a clue about computers so a prank is out of the question. dont think the sounds would be exactly the same every time if it was picking up a taxi or something. downloaded and ran ccleaner last night so see what happens tonight. f**k, music and a womans voice has just come on so that has'nt worked. the womans voice sounded like an advert for something but ended before she said what it was. first time i have heard this. think i am going to have to format hd to get rid.

Is the lead plugged into pc to speakers?.its possible the lead to speakers is acting as an aerial and the speakers are amplifying the signal, doubt very much its a problem with pc,I have known this before on my own speakers-first time i`ve heard someone else with it,try rerouting the leads and see if that cures it

I know u say it sounds more like a recording than voices over the speakers, but in the early days of cb radios i could be in the car on the drive talking on one & my wife could listen in on the telly in the house, its possible that as previously mentioned a baby monitor or something similar is hearing a recording & u can hear it now & again. it may even be next doors sky multiroom if they have it. I doubt if formatting the hard drive will cure it, but let us know how u are getting on. p.s just a thought, but my speakers are powered from their own supply, not the computers, so if i switch off the computer they just hum away, cos they are still on, if yours are the same leave them on to see if the interference is totally a speaker problem.

You computer is haunted.I can get voices through my speakers because the surround sound system has a built in radio in the amplifier.

There is a well known issue that happens with Logitech speakers. At night you can sometimes hear radio stations from Belgium or Holland throught the speakers for a couple of minutes, and then it disappears. Could be the same thing? Though to be honest its most likely a local radio station.
