Saxo 1.5 diesel 2001 Speedo stops working

my daughters Saxo has a problem where the speedo stops working until she's disconnected the battery for a short time. It's happened three times in the last few weeks. The car has 92K miles on it. Also, she's just told me, the rev counter, fuel gauge & temp gauge all register zero but the milometer still works. Any suggestions please? Regards Peter
