Hi everyone,

We've been looking at Mazda Bongos for sale recently. They seem to be excellent value for money when compared to something like a VW California. We're looking for something we can travel long distances in, with the occasional stopover en route. Most of our camping through will be done in our tent.

Does anyone have any experience of them, good or bad? Are they reliable? I am guessing they are all imported. Are you able to get them serviced and repaired anywhere, or would you need to seek out a specialist garage?

Many thanks
Ian

Hi Ian, I had a 'Bongo' great vehicles to drive no problems with parts as i didn't need any, mine came from 'Manchester Campers' with part conversion, found it a bit small for what we needed it for, bought a tunnel awning, still not what we needed, so I part exed it for a Toyota LWB fully converted, excellent vehicle, came in direct from Japan through 'Steve' from Wigan,- back to the 'Bongo', buy from a good dealer, or 'Private' 2.5D auto on a 96 should only cost you around £3 - £5000 not converted, converted should put £3000 on it, don't worry about high mileage. You can get them serviced with your local garage who does commercial vans, I only had mine 18months before I PX'd it ,one service, cost about the same as a car.

Thanks Art, sounds good. I've since found the owners club web site at http://www.bongofury.co.uk/ and the feedback there seems good too.

Going to see a 2WD diesel this Thursday with lifting roof for £5295

It doesn't appear to have had any conversions done to it. Quite fancy fitting a simple kitchen to it myself. Does anyone know what is required legally if you do this?

Does it need any Type Approval, or do you just need to get it through the MOT?

Thanks
Ian
