hi jade weve a sec d gelding , a cob gelding, a dales gelding and a highland colt whos 2. youll be hard pushed to get a loan at a riding school for free as owners usaly pay livery to even tho there horses are used , and made money out of! your best bet is to advertise your help and wait to get the right person and right horses for a free or cheap part loan. there ar load of owners all over the place whod love help, me included!, but cant always find genuine people im sure someone will be v glad of your help keep looking! x

Hi guys , just a quick question , any ideas on a horse that humps ( for doggy people , not that kind of a hump (: ) he does it once in a blue moon , for no apparent reason , looks scared , but as he's a spooky horse anyway probably just scares himself at the time , my adult daughter was having a jumping lesson yesterday , he was doing fine then suddenly after a nice fence ( only small ) he humped her the full length of the arena , she tried hard to stay on but lost an iron and got dumped rather hard at the other end ( just left a+e with a rather large swollen ankle , but no broken bones , thankfully ) nobody watching including the instructor could see any reason for it ? she is an experienced rider with 21 yrs riding behind her , but this one has everyone stumped .

He has been with us for 5 years now and has come on from a very green horse to doing well at Dressage and likes jumping but still a bit erractic , never 100% chilled during a test though so always gets great write ups but loses marks ): he is a 16hh tbx wb who we think was in a riding school as a baby ( yes i know !! ) was bought as a 6 yr old but think previous owner was conned ( very nice girl who got him from school but was only little and wary of him ) but she gave him a year of tlc then sold him on , lovely people and we went from essex to durham to see him, then again to pick him up ! all our vets , equine dentist etc said he was poss only rising 4 when we got him , so rising 9 nine now , he is a great charactor , great to hack out and loves everyone , especially Sammy , so it's only this very powerfull hump ( def not bucking ) that is a worry especially as it's so rare ( he's had good quality saddle , all the usual back , teeth checks etc , told he has brilliant conformation and a very good level back , so what next ? any suggestions please , will only use kind methods as still not sure if this comes from treatment as a youngster ( only wish they could talk ) (: thanks in anticipation .

hi maybe if youve ad all the checks teeth back etc it could just be a case of him getting away with doing it for so long hes trying it on. maybe a different rider or instructor could ride him for a while, often they are v experienced in getting them out of bad habbits and quicky. my son used to give lessons to a womans horse, if it couldnt get its own way at first it rodeoed about 5 times round the school! he just sat on him and after about 4 lessons with him he stopped he realised he couldnt disloge the rider and couldnt get away with it so gave up. let me know how you go

Theres a horse that does that at my riding school except she does it at every chance she gets. They had her checked and everything and it turns out she was just doing it to get rid of her rider. So they just got one of the lighter instructors to teach her what was right and what was wrong. Everytime she did it the just turned her in a tight circle so she couldnt do it again and sternly said no, if she did it again straight after same process would happen except with a tap of the whip on her shoulder. She soon got fed up of it. Now if she tries a stern no or puttin pressure on the reins is usually enough to put her off the idea.

Hope this helps. Youve helped me a lot :)

Just to say the ankle is still swollen like a balloon but it's getting a bit easier now ( not a lot ) means we have had to go back to helping with stable chores ( havn't done that for a while ! ) glad the weather has improved today , was blowing a gale and raining yesterday ( forgot how much fun it was ) dogs been enjoying more runs in the field than usual so they don't complain either .
