HI...i didnt think i had windows messenger...but the last couple of times i have started the computer..im gettin the windows messenger icon in the corner of the task bar?? i have never downloaded windows messenger ( knowingly anyhow) cos i dont want it!! i have deleted it ystdy but this mornin its back!! I cant find it in 'add or remove programmes' so i have done a search and its sayin nothin found with that name!! but its there on the task bar?? can anyone offer any advice please?? wen i right click on the icon its givin me various options so i am clickin exit and the icon disappears..but the next time i boot up its back!!! its annoyin me now so any help please!!!thanks..caroline

Hi. Do you mean Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger? If you mean Windows Messenger, then click start then run and enter this in the text box:RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove then click OK. Copy and paste the above and set a system restore point in case anything goes wrong. Reboot and it will be gone.

Hiya...thanks..done that..it was windows messenger..i'm sure wen i first set this computer up i chose not to have messenger..in fact i havent seen the icon in the corner before so i must av done. anyway thanks a lot for your help. I must say people on here are really helpful.very grateful...caroline..do u know anythin about limewire?? been told its quite good?? wonderin wether to get it or not...is limewire the same as itunes??and someone told me about one called kazar??dont no if i spelt that right....wot are yr views on these...once again thanks for helpin me sort messenger....caroline

hi there.i have used limewire for a long time now and i am pleased with the programme.however other people whom i know have told me that it causes a lot of bugs on the computer.it hasnt happend to me or my friend who also uses it.i havent used kazar so i dont know about it but i think all the free download sites will be the same as regards the bugs etc.my son uses napster which is a pay site buy he says it is worth it as it apparently is quite safe.hope this helps.thanks.julie

hi there ive never used limewire i use azureuz and mininova for torrents and downloads but please don't even think about using kazar its full of ads pop ups and virus's galore used before in my stupidity ended up with a windows reinstall hope this helps .

Hi. Pleased all is well now. Re downloading music, I would only use respectable sites. I don't know about Limewire, but I agree with Gaz about Kazaar. If you want to know about any site you are thinking of using, just go to Google and enter say: limewire viruses spyware, and see what other people's experiences are.

Hi....think i will steer clear of kazaar then....thanks for yr advice...how do i know which are decent sites and which ones are iffy??

Hi. Basically, I should think that a site which offers free music or films that others charge for is probably suspect. Have a look at we7.com, here is a link: http://tinyurl.com/2v9eof
They provide free music with adverts at the beginning, or you can pay for music without adverts. At the end of April they will be providing free streaming music from Sony. Don't forget, if in doubt, just Google.

hi file soup download site is a secure site everything posted is virus checked and anyone tries to upload a virus gets life time ban its the same with mininova ive never had any viruses and ive used them for years read up on them on google search thanks

choose limewire i have not had any problems with it , kazza will give you a lot of problems so give it a miss.

Hi...yep downloaded limewire seems to be ok. just one thing if anyone else has limewire please??....wen connected and downloading music..the songs obviously go into limewire library...i have noticed along side the music i have in there there are numbers sayin hits uploads etc..sometimes i only get prob 1 or 2 in these boxes but sometimes have had as many as 100 or 99!!...why??!!what are they?? thanks
