just reading the manual re set instructions .The hood will not fully go down so the part which explains closing the lid, (I go back to the boot and lock it,) it wont close as the lid for the compartment is a good 45 degrees off of closing, and the hood is a good 6 inches off of being in the compartment fully . should this work or will I just do more harm than good, bit nervous to be honest. All electrics are good though, so dont want it to cost me in the long run, anyone out there had or has the same problem please please please help a bird out......cheers

the reason the roof wont go fully into the 'bin' is more than like due to the moving bar above drivers head not moving back. see photo (if it uploads) if indeed it is this bar all you need is some elastic to give it enough tension so when the roof starts to lift from the screen this bar will move back as well.

hi there...so much easier if someone is helping you? from how i read your message i think this what you may have to do. deep breath! you have to open the the compartment lid (the thing the hood goes into)from the boot. this is really tricky and fiddly as the book can't be opened fully when you VERY GENTLY turn the handle, the compartment has to be opened fully and then you manually put the hood in the compartment (GENTLY) like a pram hood, then close the compartment (YES, GENTLY AGAIN)with the boot handle thingy. when it is all tucked away safely you close the boot and then go through the routine to see if you can open it with the electrics. i hope all this makes sense and helps :)

OK Trotski,,,,
1. open roof clips iether side and push up with right hand until back section starts to lift.
2. push the switch to operate the roof motor.
3. support the roof (right hand) until vertical.
4. STOP pushing the switch, quickly get out look at where the bar is ,, it should be moving back ,if not help it by hand then resume finger on switch.
5 you now should know whether it is the bar problem.
6. if the hood now goes into bin and the lid closes on top ok then all you need is new elastics which you can tie on.
Good luck mate.

Hi Malcolm, well last night I had the wind in my hair and it was fantastic, weather was only 13 degrees, but it was great with the roof down!!!!!!! It worked a treat and my boyfriend said that he wanted to have your babies!!!!!!! Thank you so much. It was the elastic that you have to put around the end of the arm, second bar from front of roof and the bolt above the drivers head, had become seized and just needed a bit of tinkering. All fits perfect into the bin.Thank you, thank you, from a very happy bird......

ohhhhh I feel special , hahahahaha,,,,,, seriously now listen to an old 306 cab owner. The roof is the most vunerable area on a 306 cabby. Most problems are due to age and wear and tear. Lube all the jounts and pivots on the roof frame carefully masking off the fabric itself. Also with the bin lid up loads of grease on the lid mechanism regularly, this will keep it all moving nicely. The other vunerable areas are the hydaulic pipes where the roof folds down on the drivers side, make sure they are not being rubbed by the frame as it drops down, and the roof storage bin has a ram in it that has one wire fixed to it at the end, this has a habit of breaking off,all worth checking.
Happy cabbing btw I am in North Norfolk where do meet for this dirty weekend of baby making hahahahahahaha.
Malc.

it will be the bar above you head not folding back fully because of worn elastic hook it over the end and it will pull it back

Hi,
All I can say is thanks for your comment as you have just fixed my wife roof that I happened to break a few months ago.

Thanks again your simple commands have worked a treat.

Hi, do you still have spare parts for pug 306 cab? Looking for a locking wheel nut, appears that I dont have one. If not where is the best place to go apart from a main pug dealer? Thanks

Are you pushing the first part of the roof up by hand? If so, I had a similar problem (mine is a T-reg, not sure if they are the same) and it turned out to be the frame of the roof had worn through and cut two small cables. To check you will need to lift the rear of the roof by hand (it will be stiff due to hydraulics) and also the lid that covers the roof once its down. If this is locked in place there is a manual locking/unlocking nut in the boot (rear of roof mechanism), you will need a socket i used a universal wheel brace. Once you have both lifted up the two small cables that caused my problem were just by the hinge of the roof on the drivers side just above the petrol cap. If it does turn out to be that then rejoin the cables being careful to get them the right way round. If its not that it its possible to raise/lower the roof by hand, a little annoying but possible. Hope that helps

you could of snapped off a small piece of metal on the clip on the inside of the mechanism. It is possible to fix but you will need to take it all apart.

Use care when releasing the hood bin cover with the mechanism in the boot, gently turn the nut less than one quarter of a turn (you will see when it releases so STOP turning), if you turn it too far the mechanism will break and require repairing due to it's somewhat fragile construction

Went to lower the lid on my just purchased cab this morning and one of the pipes started squirting hydraulic fluid everywhere, GRRR!! How expensive are these pipes and how difficult are they to replace?
Thanks in advance.

hello Sam.
Join the club (free) at this link. One of the members manufactures the needed pipes at a fraction of Pug prices. You will need to know however the phase of your cab 1,,2,,or,,3 and which pipe has leaked. Measure it to be sure.

hope you get sorted mate.
