My husband and I are looking at buying a Hobby 620 which is 23ft long. We are new to the Caravaning scene and any advice re this caravan would be much appreciated. We have a Nissan Nivada Outlaw pickup and a Peugeot 806 P/C Can we tow with either of our cars, whats insurance like, are sites ok with them etc, etc. Many thanks in advance.

It is not legal to tow that van with either of the two vehicles that you mention..The Gross Vehicle Weight of the vehicles must EXCEED 3500kgs due to the Hobby being 2.5 metres wide. Caravan insurance is resonable but alot of sites are refusing to take Hobby's for various reasons

Hi, all freeborn,
step up the first or only person who has ever been prosecuted for "illegally towing a 2.5mtr wide caravan". Message to all you protectionists out there, the games up , you paid over the odds for a van not of the same quality as the german manufacturers and I for one will continue to " break the law".and continue to tow with my X5 BMW,German van German motor, who gives.

Somebody has already had a problem and it's documented either somewhere on here or on another site. As I remember it it involved an oversize Hobby and a Toyota Landcruiser and both insurance companies refused to pay out leaving him well stuffed, can't remember whether or not he got prosecuted. if I find it i will post a link

Here we go again! Jedzed, what other laws are you not bothering to follow? Just because it may be nobody has been prosecuted doesn't alter the facts. The width law doesn't seem to make sense but it is clear and unequivocal.
BTW aren't BMW X5s made in the States? Airstream anyone?

just returned from germany with my 540uk tows like a dream its ashame i had to drive all that way to get the best for my money, unlike the british ones i viewed old and new nothing matched the hobby and for towing it didnt move an inch and didnt know it was there, as for insurance no problem, and for booking on sites not one site has turned me dowm with my hobby and even alton towers which i heard will take it,

i think a lot of what we here and read is aimed at keep the briish caravans highly priced and may be afraid of the german vans, WHO KNOWS
