Hi Can you tell me if you managed to get your car fixed, and if so what was the problem? Thanks.

Dont know if its relevant, but I have had the same very occasional problem with both a Rover 600 and Peugeot 406.
With the Rover it coughed after being left for a week and then would not go. Decided that it was flooded and was still getting too much fuel due to temp reading cold. (it was cold). It was started by dosing the air-intake with a heat gun.
With the Peugeot which would normally start on first turn, it seems that maybe the immobiliser had not de-activated for some reason and thereafter flooded and needed a lot of persuassion to start and was seriously flooded.
Now when I start the Peugeot If it does not start on the first turn, I always switch off immediately and watch for the keycode light to go
off before trying again. It might be a tip to check the code light before you start every morning.

Is your starter motor ok? As I had a Mini & then Fiat Brava with the same starting problems, the cause on both vehicles was the starter motor binding which slowed it right down while spinning, drawing more current from the battery than it should have which meant that not enough current was reaching the sparkplugs to fire the engine, while a bump start would fire the engine every time because the faulty starter motor was by-passed.

I bought a recon starter for my Brava which turned out to be a duff one as the same problem happened again so I replaced it with a dearer recon starter & this worked a treat.

Doc
Thanks for reply.Starter motors fine .Its an intermittent fault and will always start when the fault occurs with a push. Its almost as if by starting with a bump start it sorts the problem that wont allow it to start of starter motor.

My engines too sounded ok when cranking it was just the starters that were faulty. Fiat dont recommend that the engine is bump started as this causes unburnt petrol to enter the cat & may cause damage.

your car must be a nightmare to start in the winter, also looking for a hill to park must get rather annoying.

Does it start ok once it has warmed up?
