hi,
ive just been looking at motors.co.uk excellent site, and i noticed one or two cars that a few years ago were the car to have, ie escort mk4 89/90 vintage xr3i and xr3i cabriolet, i cant remember all the details but the cars advertised had very low miles, i think the xr3i had about 25,000 it looked like new in white, the cabriolet miles were a bit more at about 45,000 in one of those unusual met colours but still look fantastic, but they had a premium price, is it worth paying £2,500 - £4,000 or is it better value to buy a car that's newer with more miles,

tommy

for these cars to be mint and looked after to the right peops they are worth a fair bit as most cabs have been robbed and wrecked and the XR3 i will be coult car statas as most of these have been wrecked. their not for me although nice looking and practical.

IMO on a motor of that age its not worth taking any notice of its so called mileage due to the fact its easily given what the seller wants to give it(illegal or not its done)

I prefer to go on the sound/running of the engine, how clean/worn the interior is and how few ripples are in the body panels (the less the better)including how well the doors/tailgate/bonnet/ line up

Thats how I value a car,not on its mileage....

I couldnt agree more with r200 once cars get to this age milage (within reason) is irrelavent and overall condition is far more important, rust in particular as ford is one of the last big manufacturers to get to grips with rust in my opinion.
These cars in there day were I have to say good fun if nearly uninsurable for a young bloke.
