The conversion was done before I bought it, so the secondhand price was very good. But I knew what to look for. There are some cr*p conversions out there. There are loads of specialist garages who do LPG conversions now, but check they are fitting to an approved standard or your insurers might not like it. You can fit DIY too, and then pay £50 or so to have it checked over and certified. If you have the right sort of LPG system fitted you can be exempt from London congestion charging also. My type is not. Costs range from £500 for DIY kit to £3000 for V8 hitech engines in small engine bays. Mine would have cost around £1,500. I have lost some of the boot space and flat load area because I am using a massive 90L LPG tank in the back, but you can fit a doughnut one in instead of the spare wheel. I did consider doing this but the doughnut tank is about £500 fitted and only holds 40L. The petrol tank is 70L so I get a huge non-stop range with both this and the petrol tank. Filling up with LPG is no problem either (next time just look for the the prices at petrol stations, and if you see 30 something pence - its LPG) and I just love going in to pay for 80L of fuel for £29 while those filling up with 80L petrol/diesel are paying £64...every time...again and again and again. The conversion paid for itself after I had filled up 42 times. This sounds alot, but if you fill up just once a week, that's 52 times a year. If I filled up once a week I would be saving about £1900 a year in fuel tax. I fill up about twice a week. Secondhand values of bifuel factory fitted Vauxhalls are very good because people are generally ignorant about it. So while the vehicle may have cost £1,000 more new, the secondhand value is about the same or £250 more than equivilent petrol. Infact I have found bifuels to be cheaper than diesels. It won't always be like this, as people catch on. But by then the government will hike the LPG tax up...

I own a 1997 2.5td Estate GLX with the BMW engine.

The rear end is quite high and as there don't seem to be springs on the back I was wondering if anyone knew if the back end could be lowered easily to level the car out???

Yeah that's very well but I believe the concession on LPG was meant to finish in 2004. Hardly worth the investment of £2000 if they decide to stop it. At least diesel will give you 45 mpg.

I've got an Omega from hell - the gearbox problems I'm having are astounding. It's a 1999 CDi estate with the later 'DG' autobox, car now on it's 3rd gearbox with a different set of faults per gearbox, mechanic now thinks it may be wiring - or there again could be ECU - can anyone help?

I have a 96 Omega "Tourer" estate. I find it very weak at low revs. My previous car, a Volvo 850 had identical BHP but just seemed to have a lot more pull at low revs. Also, there seems to be VERY slight vibration which happens at around 2 to 2.5k revs but only if I have my foot down hard. The local dealer reckoned the car was ok - "The Vectras go better sir". He couldn't hear the vibration so perhaps I'm being fussy about that. I'm investigating the idea of chipping the car but, upon searching the net, have founf loads of places offering a "piggy back" kit at four or five quid which promises +20BHP. Am I to steer clear of these? What would you recommend? Out of interest, I paid £3500 for my Omega in March with 33,000 miles on the clock. This is however Guernsey and anything over 50,000 miles is considered "high mileage" although not by me! Look forward to your comments.

Hi all
I have just bought a 2000 2.0l gls omega. We have just found a fault with it in that it hesitates and judders when you are cruising at any speed over 40mph. I have changed the plugs but still the same. Ant ideas any one please.

I've got one of those 'CCRT700's' as well.
Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me how (OR IF)I can use without creating some form of temporary SIM card holder every time I want to use it, as I do because the clarity is superb compared to any headsets.

hi everyone new member.brought a 95 mdl 2.5td elite auto 160k love the car but its gutless over 3000rpm.starts and runs fine but struggles to make headway after 3000rpm.switch on ignition and after 20 seconds a grating whirring sound comes from under o/side of car just in front of fuel tank.looks like some kind of pump?.noise then stops after 10-15 seconds.could this be a pump that is knackered and not delivering enough fuel at higher revs.secondly is this model ok 4 towing a twin axle caravan(auto box cooling etc) many thanks

Suggest you avoid the "20bhp chips". Reading the feedback from people who have bought this seems to reveal that it's just a £1 resistor, which in most cases either does absolutely nothing or actually decreases power!

Hi, I have a 95 L reg Omega Estate 2.5TD CD. It has done 98000 miles and it has been used for towing caravans before. It has a few problems. 90% of the time it REFUSES to start from hot and runs battery flat. The engine hesitates under acceleration sometimes when fuel is below the 20 litre mark on the guage. Also the ABS light sometimes comes on and stays on even with new ABS control unit and pump. I was a pillock a while back and put petrol in it by accident, dunno if this might have had some adverse effects. Please can anyone help, and if not should I take it to a Vauxhall garage to get it seen too as opposed to an Indie garage. Cheers!

Hi

What are the problems - Ive got a 2000 2.2 cdi estate and I seem to have the gearbox from hell as well. Vauxhall diagnosed the fault as the ECU, replaced it at a cost of £1000 and the fault still exists. When it gets warm, after about 30 minutes the revs will go sky high and the car jolts into a default gear (giving a check gearbox message) until the car is turned off and on again. It will be fine for a couple of minutes and then happen again.

You do need the credit card sized sim card (holding the mini insert). I got round it by buying a spare sim card, but this means a second mobile number. Some providers offer two cards on one number.

Can you get a duplicate SIM card?.
I didn't know that - I thought I only had the option to buy another, and didn't want the hassle of having two nos. for various 'logical' reasons.
I'll obviously have to consider getting a 'life'.
Do you know if the CCR700 will easily transfer to another Omega (same model but saloon)?

check the airflow meter body, the air intake, all air intake pipes, and condition of exhaust, especially cat. If it is gutless over 3000rpm too it is likely to be an airflow (in and out of engine) issue.

Reference Sim card, this is only hearsay, but I have been told that one or more contract providers allow two sim cards on one number, (not pay as you go). Hope this is true, but I have no problem having the two numbers on pay as you go. I don't know if you can swap the radios over, Vauxhall should know.
