Hi Chris. I bought an Omega 2.5TD Auto last June and am a bit puzzled to. Mine isn't quite like yours though. On mine the faster you go the better it gets, at least up to 90'ish (as fast as I have been!). Previous to the Omega I had a series of SAAB 2.0 Auto's all petrol and then a Citroen ZX 2.0 diesel manual (without supercharger). They all went well although obviously the MPG on the SAAB's wasn't that good, mid twenties at best. I've not really done a careful MPG check on the Omega just pushed the trip milometer button on tank refills and calculated from that but the tank may not have been equally empty each time..?? But I am sure I was getting about 30'ish round town and better on a run... The maybe problem I have is that pulling away from cold is very sedate even if you floor the pedal it won't go any faster. It gets more like normal once it has warmed up but you can never get a fast take off. Not what I would call fast ie it never gets anywhere near making the tyres squeal!!! It has a towbar and is alright with a small trailer but not convinced it would pull a caravan. The manual Citroen had a REALLY good take off even with 2.0L but then maybe it is because it is a smaller car? I understand that the engine is made by BMW and not only used in some of their models but also the Range Rover??? Cheers, Roger

As you've probably already read my Td seems sluggish when accelerating until the revs get over 2000rpm. Once up to spped though it seems pretty good and easily cruises at 80-90.
The book 0-60mph is a little over 12 seconds, I'll have to time it soon to see how mine compares.
Michael.

hi, this is the same reason i joined PRELOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! abs ecu most most most likely, if you attach a diagnostics and it comes up will no communication, then it boils down to the ABS ECU... don't worry its common on these cars. hope that helps. P.S have fun changing it too!!!

Might be a leak letting air out that the mass flow meter doesn't 'see'. Diesel inlets run positive pressure due to the turbo pumping air into the engine all the time. The ECU uses a mass air flow meter to measure the air in to calculate the amount of fuel needed. If Air is escaping then the engine will get over fueled - giving incomplete ignition (black smoke) and unburnt fuel in the exhaust (causes back firing in petrol - never tried it in diesel).
Must be a stonker of a leak though to make it stall - no hoses split / clips missing from turbo to intercooler etc ?

I don't know what your problem is but a good investment is the additive that you mix with a full tank of diesel which in turn cleans your injectors out available in autopart shops

Hi
Have you checked the fuel cut off valve? It stops diesel from the low pressure side from getting the the high pressure side - when the ignition is on the coil inside it pulls a plunger up into the valve body and allows diesel through, when the ignition is off the plunger falls down and stops the fuel flow and thus the engine. The ECU might not know about this valve so wouldn't report a fault if the coil is open circuit.
I had a PSA diesel once that had a faulty cut off valve. On this engine you could take the valve plunger out and re-fit the body. The engine started fine, but still ran even when the ignition was off.
Stop it by applying handbrake, selecting 4th gear and letting the clutch out....
Hope this helps.

sounds like over fueling, can be caused by blocked air filter or cold start sensor fault making pump deliver more fuel than needed

If the head gasket is gone water mixes with the exhaust fumes resulting in grey smoke coming out of the back to check for this make sure that your water has remained topped up and is not unusually low, this can also occur if the timing is out. Black smoke is a result of oil mixing with the exhaust fumes meaning that the piston rings are broken and letting oil through into the combustion chamber where it is mixing with the combustible fuel, so check your oil levels either way it does not sound good. Get some more independant advice

Hi Paul. Last summer we bought a 1995 Omega TD Auto with about 150000 on the clock. During the whole time we have had it the performance could best be described as 'sedate'. Its not that it doesn't go ok in fact if anything the faster it goes the better it feels.... But when it has just been started it is very slow such that crossing a 'T' junction gets one feeling a little worried...!! But it gets going soon enough. But it never feels as brisk as other petrol auto's we have had or even manual diesels. So it sounds like yours is a bit similar but we don't know how 'normal' that is. Roger
