We have an S-reg 2.5 CDX petrol automatic and sometimes (but not always) have problems moving (when parked) the 'gear shift' out of park. The gear shift has in front' of the 'knob' a plastic bit that one has to 'pull up' with the fingers - sometimes this won't move (even when, of course, the engine is running and foot is on brake pedal).

Sorry if this description of the problem lacks technical sophistication but can anybody advise me how to solve this problem?

Thanks,

Ray

are you shaw its the tensioner, i had a viscous coupler loose its bearings made one horable noise wile ideling, but jamed when acclerating so was silent. it was on the way out when i got it, so thought it was normal ! wasn't till the fan started to foul a juberly clip on a water hose, and make a hole new noise that i investergated, I was quite happy when i found the cause, even though the part was £100, as the new noise sounded very expensive. when cold you should be able to rotate the fan and there shouldn't be any side play.

it could be a intermitent fault with the brake light switch, does the brake check warning go off on the dash display, when you get the problem. if you get stuck you can over ride the solinoid by lifting the gear stick cover and triping it manualy.

Had this problem some years back on same model, after much work by diesel specialist was traced to the fuel temp sensor. I think this is located on the top of the fuel filter. Order from Bosch agents or Vauxhall.
BTW my car was impossible to start after switching off when hot.

I take it the computer did not say "engine running ok"?
The Vauxhall dealers I took my car to said it wanted a new fuel pump (£2000), perhaps their computers are speaking the same language.

hi
can anyone help?
i have a 96 omega elite 3l estate which has suddenly developed a bad water leak from behind the engine block somewhere, our mechanics have had it on the ramps but can find nothing.
The leak starts as soon as you start the engine and does not need to warm up.
we have tried liquid glass but to no avail
any ideas would be great
thanks

It will most likely be the heater bypass valve (HBV) located at the rear of the O/S cylinder bank. This is a plastic valve and is quite cheap to replace.

Hi Guys,
Have a question, Omega estate 2.5tdi (BMW) Engine with Top End Probs, not to sure but somethings broken as it Top End Rattle'ing like crazy, loss power but still sort of ticks over like a 6 pot with no load.

Local garage says not worth it, £800 Labour plus parts before he will even look at it.

Heres the Question, a friend has a L reg BMW 325 td (MOT does not work) and has offered me the Engine which he says is still great, unlike the rest of the car 200,000 Mls, aparently this come as 150bhp as standard this ones been chipped for 175bhp and for better enconomy. Will this engine fit as a swap for my Omega what about the ECU and all the sensors, or am I just thinking about living in cloud cockel land.

Any ideas of good workshops thst may be could do this (london/essex)?

Any help would be great as its a nice straight Omega, everyones telling to me to 'move on' but I havent given up yet!

Thanks Chris.

The BMW engine in the Omega has been adapted, so it would be impossible to take an engine from BMW car and put it in a Vauxhall. There is however
a Vauxhall Omega being sold for spares on Ebay might be worth checking out.
