I have had a fuel leak on my 2.5td omega(,96-97) saloon. I took it in to a local specialist,he told me it was from the solenoid on the pump.Has anyone any ideas on the subject. The price for a new injector pump is about £650 ,more than the cars worth I think but its asmashing runner otherwise.Yours, Colin.

Hi all

I have an OMEGA 2.6 CDX ESTATE 2001 and having trouble trying to find a supplier for the rear exhaust box and two centre boxes. I have tried all of the large exhaust manufacturers but they only make the earlier systems. Been to the dealer and had a quote of £120 for each of the middle boxes and £95 for the rear box plus VAT. Does anyone know if the system is the same as the earlier 2.5 model?

Thanks John

Hi guys. I'm new here and about 2 months ago we bought a 51 plate Omega estate 2.2 turbo diesel. Lovely car but keep getting a burning smell from front wheel arch drivers side. Had a new clutch put in but the smell is still there although not as bad.
It only happens when we reverse up a hill!
Any ideas what the problem might be???
Cheers

Hello all.

I bought a 1994 Omega 2.5td manual estate the other day.

One problem is that it seems very sluggish at low revs (anything below 2500ish). When manovering on the spot the engine seems easy to stall.
When pulling away in 1st gear and sticking my foot down to the floor it doesn't accelerate very much at all until the revs are over 2500 or so, the same happens in second gear. Once your up to speed cruising I can drop from 5th to 3rd and the car will overtake ok, it's just accelerating from low revs that seems to lack power.

I'm not sure what performance to expect, but something doesn't seem right!

I can hear the turbo whistling.

I bought the car for towing, but I'm worried that it won't pull much now!?

Any help much appreciated, thanks :)

Hi b.
I bought an 1995 Omega 2.5td Auto last july and although I am not unhappy with it the take-off when cold is very sedate. When warm an upto cruising speed it performs much better but could still be described as sedate compared to other auto's I have driven. Even the 'sport' selection doesn't make much obvious difference. My daughters Cavalier which is petrol and manual is VERY sprightly.
So all I can say is this Omega is a bit like yours but whether that is normal I don't know....
Cheers

The clutches torque gears are between first and second and mine was sluggish between the two. My advice is that you check your clutch out quickly otherwise it is going to cost you.

Rich, when you say clutch gears do you mean in an auto box?

Mines a manual by the way.

So you cured the slugish performance in 1st and 2nd gears just by fitting a new clutch?

Not sure what you mean by torque gears 'between' 1st and 2nd.

I see in my owners manual that when towing and starting on inclines that you are not meant to exceed 19mph in 1st gear or 30mph in 2nd gear.

Is this something to do with the 'torque gears' that Rich is on about?

Can anyone elaborate on this or does anyone know whether manual gearbox 2.5 diesels use a weired clutch or gearbox arrangement?

Thanks, Michael.

When I refer to 1st and 2nd gears as the torque gears they are the gears you use when you are normally pulling away so they are the gears that need to produce the most torque when changing from one to the other, the higher gears need less because by the time you change into them you are already moving(less torque,or pulling power needed) as a result when your clutch begins to show signs of wear it will manifest itself in the poor changing of the 1st and 2nd gear.

I get you now!

Ths clutch is fine though. The gear change is perfect, the biting points nice and there's no clutch slip at all.

It's the fact that there's no power there in the first place that's worrying.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Guys,
Great site, first off Im a Newbie so please be gentle.

I bought my first Omega Estate last year, 1995 2L 16v GLS Auto, Fell in love with it, didn't fall in love with the MPG though £20 gets me arround 100 miles around town (London) and not much more on the Motorway, I think that works out about 20 - 23 MPG and thats with a very light right foot.

With this in mind Ive been looking into a 2.5 TD, 2 reasons, one I like the Omega and secondly I used to drive a BMW 2.5TDi SE, the engine on the BM was great, Powerfull and economical 38 MPG around town and 40+ on a run.

Ok, so a few weeks ago I bought one, a clean 1997 Estate 2.5TD CDX Auto (I know, but couldn't find a Manual), when I test drove the Car I wasn't convinced about the pulling away from start at low revs as it seemed a bit sluggish, but roared into action if you boot it.

With all this in mind I still bought the Car, sought of convincing Myself thats its probally a De Tuned engine compared to my old BM and maybe Ive recently been to used to driving Petrol Engines.

That outcome of all this is its pretty impresive on the MPG, around 30 MPG in London Traffic and 35 to 40 on Run. However the other day I had to travel North up the M1 the first time Ive had chance to play with it above 60, on a clear run at 70 was arround 39MPG so out of couriosity I wanted see what it was like at say 80, 85. It was the to my horror that I found the Car would struggle to get to 80Mph and when it eventually did get to 80 that was it, no more. Even trying to maintain this speed would cause the Gearbox to drop down on the very slightest of Hills and even then really struggle before slightly loosing speed.

Heres my question are these Diesels all like this? am I expecting too much, My old BM 2.5TD would have flown easy at these speeds and up to 125Mpg (in Germany).

Any help would be great, maybe Ive bought a Dud but 70 and below its fine.

Thanks Chris.

PS. I did check Car with Brakes off and I can easly push no problem.

Hi Chris. I bought an Omega 2.5TD Auto last June and am a bit puzzled to. Mine isn't quite like yours though. On mine the faster you go the better it gets, at least up to 90'ish (as fast as I have been!). Previous to the Omega I had a series of SAAB 2.0 Auto's all petrol and then a Citroen ZX 2.0 diesel manual (without supercharger). They all went well although obviously the MPG on the SAAB's wasn't that good, mid twenties at best.
I've not really done a careful MPG check on the Omega just pushed the trip milometer button on tank refills and calculated from that but the tank may not have been equally empty each time..?? But I am sure I was getting about 30'ish round town and better on a run...
The maybe problem I have is that pulling away from cold is very sedate even if you floor the pedal it won't go any faster. It gets more like normal once it has warmed up but you can never get a fast take off. Not what I would call fast ie it never gets anywhere near making the tyres squeal!!! It has a towbar and is alright with a small trailer but not convinced it would pull a caravan. The manual Citroen had a REALLY good take off even with 2.0L but then maybe it is because it is a smaller car?
I understand that the engine is made by BMW and not only used in some of their models but also the Range Rover???
Cheers, Roger

As you've probably already read my Td seems sluggish when accelerating until the revs get over 2000rpm. Once up to spped though it seems pretty good and easily cruises at 80-90.

The book 0-60mph is a little over 12 seconds, I'll have to time it soon to see how mine compares.

Michael.

abs ecu most most most likely, if you attach a diagnostics and it comes up will no communication, then it boils down to the ABS ECU...
don't worry its common on these cars.
hope that helps.
P.S have fun changing it too!!!
