Can anyone tell me how I can check if the butterfly valve which connects the two large plastic tubes on the air intake is opening properly. I have revved the engine with the bonnet up and it doesn't seem to move - does the engine need to be under load? The symptoms are poor torque at low revs and a very slight resonance. At 4k onwards the power is fine. The valve I'm on about is located just behind the rad with the vacuum pipe going to an electronic actuator just below it. Incidently, if I remove the vacuum pipe from the back of the diaphram, there is no vacuum at all when revved. Also, I can blow backwards down this pipe, (towards the acctuator). None of the pipes seem damaged in any way. Any ideas? Andre in Guernsey - http://www.quevatre.com

Ok, on the CCRT700, the small block with the two arrows at each end is removed by pressing the small button next to the word 'code' in red. With the block removed, the credit card sized sim adapter slides in at the bottom. I think the unit only works with BT or Vodaphone, (O2 I think is BT). Good luck with that.
Has anyone out there any experience of fitting a tuning chip to their ECU on the 2.5TD BM engine? Any reviews good or bad would be welcome.

RE:-CCRT-700
CJ is quite right about how to locate card insertion area.
I am positive that this model only supports 1800Mhz phones (Vodaphone etc. - definately NOT Orange).

Question for CJ - I got your reply but it was not clear to me what you meant. I am on a 'pay as you go' and apparently my provider does not sell a SIM card with the same no.
If one is on any form of contract - you can pay an additional fee monthly for an extra SIM. THis is silly in my case as I only ever want to use EITHER one card or the other. I guess at the risk of appearing a 'scammy git' - my question would be 'can SIM's be cloned' - as I guess this is what I want.
I definatelt DO NOT want an additional 'pay as you go' SIM, as this would be a different no., and I wouldn't want the hassle of putting my usual phone on divert every time I drive the bloody car!!.
Thanks for the advice to date anyway - Just wait until I ask about the 'intermittent' alarm problem

TO ALL TD OWNERS:
MY 2.5TD WAS RUNNING HOT NOT IN RED BUT CLOSE UPHILL IN THE SUMMER
AFTER WASHING MY RADIATOR THRU FAN OPENINGS TEMPERATURE IS REDUCED FOR 15'C
AND GOES TO 95'C MAX BEFORE 105'C
THIS PARTLY SOLVES THE HOTSTART PROBLEM
AS WELL MY TIMING WAS ADJUSTED(DIESEL EXPERT DID IT WITH COMPUTER ON) NOT BY THE BOOK AND NOW CAR STARTS EASIER

For Farst Eddy,
sorry, I'm not an expert on sim cards or phones. check your local town high street, and look for an independent operator selling second hand phones etc. We have one who is brilliant, and is v. helpful, next time I'm in town I'll ask about your problem.

For farst_eddy re CCRT-700

My MV6 estate has this unit. When I purchased the car it had a special credit card sized receiver for the sim card which I guess you can buy as an accessory from any Vauxhall dealer. My mobile is on contract (Vodafone) and they were quite happy to issue a duplicate sim for the same number. However I have a cross band tariff (it more than halves the phone charges) and for some obscure technical reason it is impossible to have a dual sim card on this type of tariff. After a bit of practice it is quite easy to swop the sim back and forth but with my memory I always seem to find that the card is in the car when I am not and vice versa! Not much help I know but at least you are not alone!

The usual problem with poor hot starting on the BMW 2.5 diesel is a worn injector pump. You can check this by pouring a bucket of tepid (not cold!) water over the back end of the pump and then see if it starts.

Chunnel and LPG
Eurotunnel changed their rules a while back and you can now take factory fitted( or approved!) LPG or duel fuel vehicles through the tunnel.I had no problem with my camper. For the moment, other conversions are not allowed, but some of the caravan/camper clubs here and across the channel are still pushing Eurotunnel. It was them who got the change, because eurotunnel wants the camper business.

My 2lt GlS M reg now has 230000 on the clock and still going, although some of the body work is looking tired. My air bag warning light is still lit all the time, has any one any idea about this?.The absolute worse job to do on the car was replace the heater matrix, 4 days it took me as the whole front inside the car had to come out, I recalled many swear words that I'd forgotten in the process. If you have to do the same I suggest that it would be better to cut the lower cover then do a nice repair job with the time youv'e saved.

Mark can you help. Just got a 2.5V6 Elite at the weekend and it woke me up at 3am with the alarm going off. Not too popular with the neighbours this morning and concerned it going to happen again tonight! Trying to follow your thread without success. Any pointers on why this is happening would be greaty appreciated and why 3AM?

I have same fault-Automatic Gearbox fault
I find I can cure this fault by disconnecting the ECU for about 10 seconds and then re-connecting. this causes the ECU to re-boot.
The cause of this problem I find is corruption of the ECU from intreference from a mobile phone
I find the fault does not re-occure if I keep all mobile phones off in the car
Hope this is of some use

Mr Griffen - I also have just purchased an M-Reg 2.5 TD CD with 133k on the clock. When i spoke to Masterfit in Aylesbury about the cost of a CAM Change the lady went off to speak to someone else and then gave me a figure of roughly £250. When getting a quote from another garage i was assured that i had a timing chain ... i wonder is Spencer or anyone else can give a definitive response to this?

My car came with Patchy service history so i have decided to get a major service done and rather surprisingly Masterfit came out cheapest at £130!

Also - I only have one key with the car. Is a main dealer my only source of a replacement or would a general auto-parts stockist or anyone else carry them? The multi-function display has several lines of failed pixels and I was wondering how cheap these are to replace and whether it is a viable DIY job.

I have the same problem with my 2.5 Elite, but the alarm is only triggered when the car is subjected to bright sunlight.

I have removed the sensors one by one, and at the moment the only one left is the sensor under the bonnet, so that will be my next job.

The two sensors sust behind the front doors I am told are the major problem one, it may be worth removing them and see how you get on.

CAR STEREO
++++++++++

I have an M-Reg Omega CD which has a standard looking vauxhall radio and a philips 6-disc changer in the back (presumably originally supplied by Vauxhall).

Does anyone know how complicated it is to change the head-unit for a different one and how hard or easy it is to connect to the wiring for the speakers and does it need to be a phillips headunit to control the CD changer?

Thanks!

PS - any idea how expensive and easy to fit a Speedo sensor is (my speedo - and interestingly my odometer and trip - have totally stopped moving). Occasionally the speedo does work but not for long and i suppose Omega's don't use speedo cables.
