i have a omega 3ltr v6 elite on a 2001 plate, I have seen so many different answers to the question i am going to ask and was hoping for a answer by someone qualified or someone who has experienced the same problem........my speedometer cuts out and abs/tc lights come on. had the aa out and said electric shortage mate. I have seen that people say it could be the hub sensor, i have cleaned what i think could be the sensor but no results from that.some people say that the speedometer is powered through the gearbox others say its powered through the n/s/f wheel(apparan sensor0 please help as i am going mad and refuse to take it to the cowboys at vauxhall. my e-mail address is [Log in to view email] if anyone can help.

Our N-reg CDX 2.5 used to have a severe steering-wheel wobble at around 80 mph and so does our current S-reg CDX 2.5. Ensuring that the tracking is correct and fitting new, quality tyres has no effect. Does anyone else experience this? Is it a 'design fault'?

Thanks,

Ray

Where to start really.

Parted with my very reliable Omega 2.5V6 saloon for a 2.5TD Auto estate (s reg) which is being very troublesome.

When cold I start the car reverse off my drive no problem at all but when I put it into drive nothing at all no drive it just revs, after a few seconds there is a clunk and it drops into drive and all seems fine until I stop at a junction then again when I go to pull away no drive, after a second or so, sometimes up to 20 seconds clunk and drive engages; it has also started to shudder as drive engages and I pull away, if I pull away very gently it dosn't shudder. This fault seems intermittent, better when warm but definately worse on some days than others, it makes no difference if I change into a gear manually it does exactly the same, if I have lost drive then selecting any gear other than reverse makes no difference. There are no warning lights or messages on the dash, however I do get a momentery flash from the engine management light when driving when the revs drop below 1000rpm, just as it passes 1000 rpm the light flashes briefly and the engine shudders slightly. Now the dilema is the mid section of the exhaust has had it and is about to drop off, I dont want to fork out on a new exhaust system if the auto box is shot, although the auto box was replaced by the former keeper last year. I did think maybe the tranmission fluid may be low but having searched the engine bay thoroughly I see no dipstick for checking the fluid and no reference to it in the manual.

I really am stuck with this, I need the car for my work and small children but dont have a huge amount available to spend on it, any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks

Kev

Hi Chris

I've got exactly the same fault with my Omega. TC and ABS warning lights illuminate and the speedo stops working. Did you get to the bottom of it by any chance?

TC and ABS warning lights illuminate and the speedo stops working.
And if you would connect it to a diagnostic machine, you would find the diagnostic will not be able to detect any faults with the ABS unit due to the ABS ECU not connecting to the diagnostics (ABS ECU not working)

Its the ABS unit. change it!

look on top of the ABS unit and you will find it has a two letter code e.g DX, TX.....or something along these lines...
ring a vauxhall second hand part shop and ask if they have your particular unit.

i bought a 2nd hand for about £100.

hope that helps........

its a pice of p***

dont go around paying people stupid amounts of money.

The ECU (the brain) that controls the ABS breaking system is called an "ABS ECU" simple.

Step1....
Get it diagnosed (stick it on a diagnostic machine and run a check on your ABS system (ABS ECU) which should tell you ALL the faults the system that it might have).

Step2....
If it detects a fault in the ABS system then simply get down to the root of the problem by using the diagnostic machine.........

OR

If the diagnostic machine CAN NOT detect the ABS system (ABS ECU), or CAN NOT detect any problems with the ABS system then it comes down to the ABS ECU not working (not responding) therefore the diagnostics machine cant access the ABS ECU. which should mean that the ECU is NOT WORKING.

The same problem happened to me and my mates Omega.
Its very common for Omega's to have this problem.

if you have problems call Adil 07966183194.

Hi, Have just per-chased a 1998 2.5 v6 omega estate. Fantastic car all round but have a problem with the alarm going off. A few times this has happened in the street when the car isn't being used and also the alarm has gone off after about 30 seconds of driving, very embarrassing. Can anyone help, thanks Dave.
