Hi Dave B it is all most certain to be the back up battery on the alarm, it is located under bonet on driver side, under the scuttle panel at the back of the servo. but pricey for a replacement, it can be removed / disconected but the alarm won't work, but i am fairly sure the imobiliser is still opperational Regards Les

Hi Gerry
you do not need to remove the plastic under panel, only the central removable disc (10" across) to be able to get at the drain plug. the oil filter is done from the top. from the passenger wing lean over and look for a black plastick dome about 4" across with a big moulded nut at the top, remove this to get at the long paper ellement inside

Hi
Thanks a lot Les; I haven't done the job yet but I did have a look and spotted the parts concerned right away so should be no problem. Thanks again.
Regards Gerry.

Do you refer to the OmegaOwners.com ? If so, try to re-register... a few folks have said they've had probs recently.. The administrators have had several outages lately to upgrade the server.... please try again... you'll be very welcome to join..

Hi, I've got a '95 2.5 TD auto with the BMW Engine which just stopped the other day whilst driving below 20mph. There was a clunk from under the bonnet, and the ignition lights came on. Now, when turning it over it sounds wrong and won't start or even fire. Suspected cam chain broken, has anyone known this happen before? A mate suggested either a thrown rod or a broken pulley, any ideas? If it is the chain or related are these engines safe or is it another head/valves etc?

Your speed problem may be a function of being an auto.
My manual does 120 mph and I have the points to prove it! (normally on the German autobahn and not a problem there)

Spencer - you seem to be the expert on this site
I have a 2.5TDI manual estate July/August 98 which I have had from new (was my company car) and it has done 168,000 with almost no problems. Have replaced the glo plugs a couple of times, but am still on the first clutch.
I now have a real problem in that the car will not start when cold and my local diesel electric experts tell me it is a leak on the bearings in the vacuum part of the injector pump not pulling enough fuel when it is cold and thick.
Rebuild of the pump they are quoting at about £450 for parts plus labour
Any suggestions please?
