Hi, I brought a 3.0 litre 24 valve auto and it wouldn't change from second to third and it turned out to be the transmission fluid to be low, Once it was topped up it was fine. michael

SPENCER................. You seem to know what your on about, Have you got any info for me on this vehile. Just brought a 3.0 litre 24 valve with leather, memory seats, computer, heated front and rear seat and all the other bits and bobs you get with the elite models. Its just covered 72500 miles with all old MOTS to back up the mileage and i did a couple of other checks just to make sure. Had a cambelt at 46298 miles and full top end rebuild (Receipt to prove that £1978.95). Do you know of any faults whatsoever on those models. Or anyone else with any INFO. Also need a o/s/f double bumper headlight washer what mounts to bumper (The thing that squirts out the water not the pump) it has to be the double one will pay just call me on 07894572601 and ask for a Michael

Hi there!

I have a 98' Omega Elite Estate with the BMW diesel and auto box. Love the car, had it from new as a company car but so impressed I bought it from the leasing company.

One recent problem has been a very noisy vibration from front nearside. Garage (not a Vauxhall main dealer, just local outfit) reckons it is reflected vibration from the diesel pump to the wheel arch.

Couple of questions:

Has anyone else experienced similar (garage said it was a common fault with the diesel pump and expensive to replace)?

If it is the diesel pump, how much would it cost to get a recon (I know, should have asked the garage to quote)?

Cheers!

Andy

I have a P Reg 2.0i Auto Estate Omega. I have had many jobs done and spent a fortune to bring it up to some kind of condition to give me a couple of years good service. So far it has had new cam belt, water pump, battery, starter, head gasket and crank sensor. Money has run out and I still need to do a couple of jobs myself. These are to clean out the idle air valve which is currently causing stalling at low revs and to replace the cam sensor (limiting revs to about 4.5k).

The final job, and the reason for the post, is to fix the glove box cover which fails to stay shut. Anyone done this? Do I have to remove the whole dash?

I had a problem with a broken glove lid. I managed to get another from a scrap dealer but it was the wrong colour outer. I can tell you the glove locker comes off as a unit but, as I recall, some of the bottom fixings are less than obvious. Also there is a little pipe from the a/c section which pipes in cold air!! Perhaps to keep your beer cold?? Have to be thin beer tho!
I can say that, considering it is ONLY a glove locker, it has an incredible number of parts. Only one step back from stripping down an engine!!

Hi there, i have the 2.5 td vauxhall omega 1999 V reg (bmw engine) and i have a problem with the accelerator, when i am driving and i take my foot off the accelerator to slow down then put my foot on the accelerator to speed up again i sometimes get no response from the accelerator and either have to pump the accelerator a few times or change gear to get any acceleration also when i start the engine from hot or cold sometimes it takes a long time for the engine to turn over, sometimes it starts straight away, could this be a glow plug problem? Any ideas?

hello Tommo

It might be your fuel injectors that are blocked, a good way of cleaning them
out is to buy an additive that you put in with your Deisel only when filling up
a full tank you can buy that from any autoparts place and it is good to clean the system out regularly any way try that and tell me how you got on.

Cheers RichC

I have the exact same issue with my 2000 (I think) omega 2.2 CD auto. The gearbox has been replaced and is now under warrently, but the gear box specialist doesn't know what it could be. He says he's tried replacing the gear fluid, changing switches - I think I've narrowed the gear jumping down to the switching from 3rd to 4th, but I could be wrong. I lose all the power when this suddenly revs up high, and the only way to correct it is to slip the car into third with the gearshift, and hope the error msg doesn't come up. Once that happens, I have to wait until traffic lights to reboot the car. It's like windows :(

Please, someone help.

This might be a clue to your problem (or no help at all!).

I recently had my engine and gearbox steam cleaned to find the source of some leaks. When I drove away I had all sorts fo problems with the gearbox electrics (random messages on the display) erratic or no gearchanges and the engine cutting-out.

If your gearbox electrics are getting wet from water or oil, it might be something similar. Might be worth checking.

Andy, I was interested to read that you steam cleaned the engine to find some leaks. I have been thinking of doing the same thing. I have a fairly significant leak of oil which I just cannot find. I even took it into a garage who put it up on a 4 post lift for me.

Did the steam cleaning help you find the leaks? Would you still recommend it since you had the water ingress problems?

Steve

Hi Steve

Yes it did do the trick and two leaks were located.

A small one between the gearbox and engine (requires the removal of the gearbox to replace the seal so that can wait). A poorly fitted oil filter was the other.

The engine was in such a mess with oil all over the place it would have been impossible to locate these at all without the steam clean. You will need to remove the engine shield which is substantial on these cars and does it's job well. I'm sure the garage will do that for you if you don't have ramps.

If you have the opportunity to leave the car a good few hours before using it the problems I experienced may not emerge. I had to use mine right away but the heat from the engine and exhaust dried it all out fairly quickly.

All the best!

Andy

Have you got a loss of power on the gears, and is it revving up high? or is the message simply there?
