regarding head gasket/cracked head, to repeat what's been said. don't drive it. get it looked at. driving it will only make it worse, and more expensive. can anyone help with my problem. the remote has stopped working. other things on the fuse work, the central locking works on the key, i've put a new battery in the fob. anyone know where the receiver is located?

Re: Remote receiver. The pickup is that little (red?) dome thing in the panel just above the centre mirror. The rest of it (that decodes the signal) is invariably within a few inches and so must be behind the panel too. I assume that the red LED on the remote lights when you push the button? If so the remote is (most likely) ok and the problem is at the receiver end but it is more likely to be a bad connection than an actual fault.

I found that the remote was at fault. Even changing the battery did not solve as it had become worn on the contacts.
First check the red light is coming on when you press the button or try the other key, then you can confirm whether transmitter or reciever fault.
I solved my key problem by adding some thin card in the battery well, teasing the contacts gently and giving a good clean out before clipping back togeather, it then carried on working for another 4 years till I sold the car.

If you changed the battery in the fob, you may need to resink the key to the car.
I think this is done by turning the ignition on with the key (but not starting it)then pushing the lock button. if the doors lock you have been succesful
my fob had a brake in the connection were the battery holder conected to the circuit board, apparently a common problem. managed to fix it with some lucky soldering !!

Re: Connell & N reg Omega that needs an engine...

He doesn't say if the engine was Petrol or Diesel but if diesel then I have an engine someone can have (For £40) and then they have a car....

Hiya,

All I can tell you is that my AUTO 2.2 ltr Omega revs up high and seems to have a similar issue but it happens randomly. So far I've been unable to fix it, but your suggestions for fixes on your car may also fix mine.

When the car revs up high and loses power etc, the automatic gearbox failure message comes up and then it sticks in third and goes into 'limp home mode'.

Hi Blue beard I'm interested in the TD if youve still got it, I need it for my S reg Omega auto that blew it's head.
I live in Cambridgeshire, and have a trailer to get it back if your not 100's of miles away.

Hi Thorpe.
If youv'e tried all the usual tricks like plugs, leads, filters, timing, compression, injector cleaning. Then get the car hooked up to a test rig at a logal garage or perhaps you have a local mobile auto electrician that can sort you out.

Does anyone know of a Vauxhall expert in the SW England (Bristol) area? I have an automatic specialist checking out my Omega Auto 2.2 ltr and he hasn't been able to stop it revving up high between I think, 3rd and 4th gear, at total random as far as we can make out...I lose all power as the car just goes along the road, revving high and refusing to change gear, and it reverts to the 'limp home mode'. The only way to stop it seems to be putting the car into gear 3 mode on the auto stickshift and/or resetting the car by turning it totally off at traffic lights.
