2.5td has a timing chain (double) not cambelt. I have found the problem with alarms can tend to be wind getting through the interior vents and if you close them then it doesn't happen. Not too sure about the sunlight!! Hope this helps

Omega 2.5td estate, I found alarm going off due to backup ni cad battery fault, voltage seemed to change and cause it to go off when I was driving, parked middle of night, basiclly any time but for no apparent reason I put it down to age(6/7 years old)sunlight /heat could also could have this effect. Its located back of servo, took me awile to find it and its a swine to get out/change, battery cost around £90 + from dealer.

You're right - apparently the failure of the battery (low voltage or whatever) is not uncommon, as it's mounted somewhere very near underneath a rainwater drain. I haven't had Vauxhall plug it in to diagnostics, but mine gave these problems just after car was four years old.

Nice thougth - but I have already physically disconnected the interior sensors, and then tried with the compartment monitoring disabled - still went off - always in bright sunlight. Got so bad I was getting paranoid to the extent of sitting in the car mentally 'mapping out' where the sunlight was 'hitting' (honest). I've got to the situation where I feel the only resolve is to submit to the plugin diagnostics, unless anyone out there would care to put me out of my misery.

Hi all. I wonder if Spencer or any of you other Omega buffs can help with my problem. I have a '99 Omega 3.0 MV6 Estate which has suddenly developed a mind of its own. Normal idle speed is about 500-600 rpm but for no apparent reason this can suddenly shoot up to 1500 or even 2000 revs on its own. It can happen at any time and as you can probably imagine it is a bit disconcerting - particularly when it happens in stationary or slow moving traffic. Sometimes the engine management warning light comes on briefly, but not always. The increase in revs can last from just a few seconds to several minutes. Someone mentioned that it might be a problem with the idle control valve. If so where is it? I can't seem to find it in Haynes. Do I need to replace it or is it repairable? I do hope somebody has some ideas. Many thanks.

I have an ex-police X-reg (2000) MV6 estate that has a couple of problems. Any advice would be most welcome.1. Intermittant failure of the speedo, with ABS and TCS warning lights coming on and light power steering. I suspect it might be a dodgy vehicle speed sensor or connection, but where is it? 2. The air-con only blows out cold air on the passenger side. I know that the police had modded the system, but has anyone come across this before and found the answer? Thanks, Paul.

PaulI have a 1999 2.5v6 Elite with the same problem of speedo failure, TCS and ABS lights coming on. Also the power steering weight changes intermittently. Would much appreciate hearing from you if you get anywhere with this. Regards Ashley

Hi my 98 Omega 2.5 td cdx estate has a noise from the power steering, it has been only intermitant of the last 3 years but has started to occured a bit more frequent over last few months, it only occurs on down hill fairly tight left hand bends when fully loaded and sounds like the pressure relief valve is blowing off but only for a spit second (like a squeal from the valve but you can feel it in the steering wheel) fluid levels ok and have been changed twice all steering joints are perfect, steering geometry ? I'm just a bit conserned with it being steering any one any idea's or similar fault?

I have a 1997 (May) Omega Estate (2.5 V6) with 103K on the clock. The car has a full service record showing a cam belt change was done at 80Kmiles. My Haynes manual says that the cam belt change interval went from 40K to 80K in the 1997 "year model". My engine number is 08197892. Has anyone any advice? Do I change on the 40K or 80k mark? I am leaning towards a change at 120K just to be on the safe side.

RE:-Cambelt change I think that they just decided to revise the frequency of change upwards, I guess they were proving relaible. I think they went from 40k to 60k to 80k BUT also to change every 3 (or was it four years) minimum. I know that the 3.0 litre they had a kit (incl. three rollers), and that it was recommended to change as a kit 'cos it was a bugger of a job just to change the belt, so might as well do it properly & forget for four years

I have just replaced the battery in mine. Pogramming is easy. Simply turn the ignition fully on - the engine does not need to be running. Press the lock button once. The doors should lock and unlock to confirm that it has been successful. I had a dodgy battery contact (in the key) for a while and the key fob had to be reprogrammed in this way every now and then. Try it, it seems to work a treat. Whilst I'm writing this, does anyone have problems with rust along the top of the doors etc. I have been quoted a fortune to have it sorted - especially the rear side fixed window which is "bonded in mate" and will cost a "pretty penny" to remove and refit. Having spoken to a trader, I am under the impression that this is a common thing with Omegas. Am I right?Andre - Guernsey, CI,

I am not sure if you can reprograme an 'AFTERMARKET' electronic key fob by going by the hand book as you have posted. I think if it is not an origional key (ie;one supplied with the car) then it is a Vauxhall dealers reprogramming job!
If it does work can you post a reply I could do with a spare (eBay??) key for my '99 CDX. As an experiment I removed the electronic top from my key and was surprised to find out that in it's 'naked' state the key opened the doors and even started the engine!! So I reckon I must have a fault in the immobiliser system some where! If you do take your key apart ie; to change the battery, take care that the tiny little chip located in the bottom corner does not fall out,If it does, It would be virualy impossible to find it! Yes I have seen them quite often on eBay!But has far has I know,Unless the key/fob was supplied with the car, It is not the simple DIY handbook job to re programme the fob to match your system codes!! Mike (Walsall)

HI MagicknightThe above key programming may not be relevent to your system anyway! On your '95 Omega I ithink it uses an infra red operated one, Later Omegas used a radio frequency system (programmed as above) Just read on another board, On how to programme the I/R type. Turn on ignition, Point remote control to the senser located by sun roof controls, Press and hold down remote control button,The interior light should light up to show system as been programmed OR central locking door buttons should click down and up! Hope this info may be of some help!! Mike (Walsall)

Hi, from a new member! I have a 2001 2.6 V6 CDX Auto, 92k miles, & love it to bits! Previous owner of several Carltons, who has suffered a Mondeo for 3 years, I just knew I'd love this Omega! I bought it 5 months ago, & like to do servicing etc myself, to save money & to be sure it's done properly! I have a slight concern over a 'puff' of smoke when starting. I changed the oil, GTX Magnatec 10/40, & filter recentley hoping this would help but doesn't seem to have. My drive, where I park, is on a slight slope, it doesn't seem to make any difference which way round I park it, the cloud is there every time when I start up. From experience I would suspect worn valve guides or valve guide seals but as I am unfamiliar with the V6 engine, wondered if there are any other ideas out there? The engine, (whole car), is in superb condition, excellent performance, usualy 27 ish mpg after a tankfull, & yes I do like to put my right foot down, it's so good! Your input appreciated, cheers, John.

I have the ABS light problem also. Any ideas on how to rectify the problem. Vauxhall say it can come on if a bulb has gone!
