Wayne,I've got the same car a 'T' reg, which has now done 90k miles. I've driven it since it was 6 months old (my company car) and now own it having opted out. It's never let me down, but two things to look out for - Watch the manifolds one of mine had to be replaced because it was cracked. A big job, I am told it is a common problem. Make sure the cambelt is checked on each service. It should be changed at 80k. You know the audio has a phone option where you put the sim card from you mobile into the radio. I think this is the best thing since sliced bread!

If you look in the back of any good off road magazine they advertise tailor made seat covers for dogs. I dont have a dog but several of my friends either breed or show or just generally have lots of dogs, these covers cost about 20% the price of fitting leather to a car, and remember if a dog has real tough claws the leather can still be pierced and then you will need an expensive retrim, with the covers you can repair alot easier and if you go out without the dogs you just remove them. Also you can get tailored plastic load trays for the boot(put in an old duvet and the dogs love it) as well as heavy duty mats for the footwells (OE from the dealer are the best for this vauxhall ones are superb) This works also for people like my dad who decide to use a volvo estate for a van for four years and then part exchange it in mint condition (he is a painter and decorator)

Help please, I have an M reg omega auto estate 2LT DOHC with 200K on the clock, I bought it 3 years ago for £500 without an engine as the previous owner ran out of oil, and he was quoted £2500 to replace the lump I did it for £100 after someone rolled an R reg saloon and he did'nt have it insured. Thats the history over now to my problem she died on me, She starts then stops after a few seconds but it takes a lot of turning over them starts with a loud clonk. I've checked timing belt all OK, then changed plugs. I've been having trouble with the warning lamp coming on occasionly, but it always went out after a few hundred metres. I don't know if its fuel or electrics where do I start to track this down? I've got all the dianostic codes and I know how to count for the faults with a test light, but what I don't know is where to plug it in, anybody found it yet? it might save me pulling half the interior out to locate it myself. Cheers Alan

Read the handbook, as it is possible to turn off the individual sensors within the car e.g you press the alarm button on the dash twice to turn off the rear alarm sensrs if you want to leave a dog in the boot etc. This will eliminate the individual sensors. It could also be a battery problem, as the alarms sometimes just go off when the battery gets low. Does the car start fine in the morning?. Sorry I haven't been much help. Get back to me if you have any joy etc.

Thx Spencer, no problems with starting although car is sitting most of the time in the car park therefore battery is not being charged, probabloy voltage is near the "trigger". I have spoken to the Vauxhall technician, apparently it is quite common problem, I am not really that much bothered, just lock the car manually, my car park is pretty secure, and anywhere else don`t care - goes off so be it, it only lasts 30s anyway! Many thanks. Mart

Does anyone have a similar problem of there Omega pulling slightly to the left? had the tracking done twice...no difference. It's a 2000 model 2.5 V6, I bought it 6 months ago with 76,000 on the clock. Also, on the damper mornings, seems to smoke for a fair while when started from cold...oil's not going down..I'm putting it down to the expansiveness of the exhaust pipes and moisture building up in them over night...any opinions?Cheers Mark

On you driving on the left? ie is it following the camber of the road, or tramlining?Have you had the rear tyres moved to the front? This causes terrible tramlining on BMWs, Mercs, Omegas and other large RWD cars. If not get proper computerised four wheel alignmnent carried out.

The V6 do blow out loads of steam on cold mornings, its normal, it can make the back of the car look like its on fire. Pulling to left is probably tracking mate.

I am thinking of buying a 12month old Omega estate 2.2 petrol but hear scary tales about exessive tyre wear. Can anyone confirm if this is a major problem. Is anyone aware of any other problems with the 2001/2002 model? Thanks Al

Hi Spencer (or should I say Mr Vauxhall!) You obviously know your vauxhalls, I have a question for you, (a little history first) I own a 95 Omega 2.5 TD Auto (which I love!), I have just had a head gasket gas test done by main dealer (oil in expansion tank)they suggested that the head be removed and pressure tested (car still starting and running fine) I have booked it in for this job but my main concern is the fuel consumption,I get about 18 around town & about 28 on a run, is this normal? or can it be sorted. Kind Regards Julie

No, my dad has a 20k mile 2002 Omega 2.6 V6 and its still on original tyres which are still in good nick and should see 30k by the looks of them. These cars are reliable, though some 2.2s have suffered from premature cam chain failures due to blocked oil feeds. Change the oil every 10k (or earlier is always better) and the car will run "forever".

Lovely car those, my dad used to have a 94 cdx 2.5td auto estate. Lovely and smooth, economaical (on the motorway) but he used to get an overall average of only around 25 mpg. Auto's always use more juice especially around town. As for oil in expansion tank is the coolant level dropping? change coolant and keep an eye on it if its running fine. There is a plug-in pack conversion for these cars available now as there is for most diesels. Costs about £500 and ive only heard good reviews of them, supposed to give 20% more power and 20% better fuel consumption or something like that. Will try and find advert I saw. If you need anymore info just ask, I will try and help if possible.

I get about 28mpg around town with a 1998 model, and 42mpg on a long gentle cruise. If I really gun it kickdown from the lights to legal limit it does 22mpg. Instead of diesel, I usually use a mixture of rapeseed vegetable oil and white spirit, which is 44p/litre. There is a top bloke at Jeremy's Intercoolers http://www.jjf.intercoolers.btinternet.co.uk/ guestbookfile1.html
e.g. From: Harry Edwards Posted on: Monday, October 30, 2000, 11:33 AM Jeremy. What have you done to my Vauxhall Omega ? Your outstanding work has increased my BHP to 181, This has transformed the car, the MPG coming to you was 34.5mpg, on my return to Edinburgh it was an astonishing 58mpg, with a 40 % saving in fuel we will soon recover the full cost. Many thanks, Harry
