Thanks for that i will give it a go and let you know. regards Mick
I hope i can help i have had the same in my omega a few years ago, the radio would not lock onto a station, it was the signal amp, this is the triangle shaped plastic blob on the roof, easy to change you need to unclip the rear headlining (not the side bits) just the centre section and the unit is right above the tailgate boot light mine had 3 wires going through the centre of the lock nut, the wires are connected into the loom with easy quick release connections, good luck teaser
this can occur when a piece of rust flakes off the disk outer edge, it causes the pads to isolate in and out when brakes are pressed. As a tempory measure you can try to diminish the effect by removing wheel and tapping outer edge of the disk so the rust flakes off (both sides) leaving just the smooth disk exposed, if the disks are not too badly pitted the pads will clean up the the disks, this is only a tempary cure, really you require a pair of new discs and pads. The other thing it could be is a cracked ventilated disk (usually the webbing) that is being squeezed in at that point when braking, if this is the case you need replace both disks and pads as a matter of urgency. Or try the files section on the Yahoo omega_qwners site.for the just the 2.5 TD engine (this BMW engine is also fitted in some Range Rovers!!) http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/omega_own......yguid=130417612 Mike (Walsall)
Because I have same problem with my Omega....
I've got 2.2CD Omega Wreg which runs on LPG but does not run on petrol....any idea? Also I have those problems with the autogearbox mentioned above (from time to time it goes to safety option which is cured when the engin is switched of and then on again and when the car has not been driven for more than 5-6 hours it runs OK and the problem starts after 40-60 minutes driving)...I would disconect the ECU for 10 seconds but could anyone tell me where to find it? Is there another Ecu for the gearbox itself? Adverts Currently On Preloved - Place an ad here for free
I have had the same happen on my first omega 2.0 98'. It cut-out in France, took it to Opel dealer mis-firing, they plugged it in, and it was a faulty crank sensor, which had melted, due to a sheared exhaust manifold stud directing hot gasses down the side if the block onto it. a common fault on this engine, the stud nearest the water pump. As i was towing en-route to the south, this certanly saved me time going to dealer, but i must say not money! all the best
Just reading some of the latest messages on the forum and can agree with almost all of them. Here are just a few responses to some of the comments. Jimbo uk 1 asks about the rad temp switch.yes there are two switches that control the cooling fans, these should not cut in until the engine is up to temperature, for a garage to say this is normal for these fans to run from cold baffles me! I have recently taken delivery of the TIS manual (mikey mike?) and find it very useful, it takes some getting used to it, but play around with it and it is amazing what info you can get, yes it covers 2.5td very well. Beware it is a massive program and comes on 2 cd's it takes about 15 minutes to load and takes a lot of hard drive space!! Dont let this deter you, it is well worth it. Info gleaned from TIS, regarding radio reception, on the estate model there is a signal amplifier in the tailgate behind the trim approx in line with the number plate, look for bad connections on this. I am more than pleased with my radio (Standard Elite fit. Philips/Bose), I live in Luton and can easily pick up Radio Swindon and once picked up Radio Solent, 120 miles away?? My previous Omega 3 Litre was a nightmare with the radio. would only pick up local radio and sometimes Radio 2. It obviosly depends on the car! Buy for now to all. P.S. still looking for a CD changer.
I think you will find your 2.5TD does not have an electric engine cooling fan, but a visco coupled one,These should 'freewheel'at low tempretures, and the get driven when the tempreture goes to high. If they do go 'Kapput' they usualy(?) lock in the pemantley driven mode, which means the fan is 'on' all the time! Check if the fan is siezed by flicking it over by hand WITH THE ENGINE OFF !! if it spins freely it obviousley has,nt siezed, next step is to checkout the thermastat,(or put a piece cardboard on the bottom of the rad and always keep an eye on the temp guage !! ) By the way my '99 2.5 TD does about 18 - 21mpg on ONLY around town driving at an average speed of 15 mph!! not exactly M1 / M6 cruising figures Mike (Walsall)
thanks 4 the reply mate .. there is a fuse in box by the battery , i was told that runs the fan.. 20 amp but was missing put new 1 in and it does keep the fan of untill gets hot which has put mpg up 2 25 to the gallon but will check theromstat many thanks jimbo.....
You have got me on the 'lecky fan running full time!! unless it's the air con fans !! I will have to lift up my bonnet tommorrow and have a look at mine!! Go onto the files section of this Yahoo site there are details of the BMW 2.5 TD (Range Rover) engine!! http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/omega_own......yguid=130417612 (you will have to join, good guys 'n info just Yahoo thats crappy!!)
