Interesting read. Perhaps someone can help me with a problem on my car.

I have a 99 2.5 V6 Elite. Superb car in every respect bar two.

1. After a run, I get the smell of burning oil in the cabin. I have checked everything and all is OK as far as levels are concerned, and I can't find anything dripping onto the manifold or exhaust. It is not a strong smell, and after a minute or two it is gone, and whilst the car is being driven it is fine, it is only when the car stops and the engine is turned off do you get it.

Secondly, on the odd occasion we have sunshine, as the sun rises, the alarm is activated and I have to go and open up the car to shut the noise off. I have disconnected the sensors up in the B pillars which made no difference, I de-activated the interior sensors , same problem, so I have come to the conclusion that it has to be a sensor either inthe boot or under the bonnet. I would have thought the one under the bonnet would be OK bearing inmind the engine heat, so would it be a fair assumptionthat it is the boot switch. I have had it put on a diagnostic and it didn't throw anything up. On a cloudy day, there is no problem at all. Any thoughts?

Oh by the way, Police Omega's are actually slower than civilian cars as they run on standard engines but carry substantialy more weight than our personaly owned cars. I know, I used to drive them for a living.

Thanks

Tony

TRY CHANGING THE OIL FILLER CAP ITS ONLY CHEAP BUT THE SEAL GO,S HARD VERY QUICKLY. THE OIL MIST IS NEARLY INVISIBLE BUT WHEN IDLEING WHEN HOT IT STINKS, OR CHECK THE G/BOX ISNT WEEPING OIL SOMEWHERE IT DOES NOT HAVE TO LEAK MUCH BUT WHEN THERE IS A BUILD UP IT TOO STINKS( IN MY EXPERIENCE TRY THE FILLER CAP FIRST)

I have towed an Eldiss Typhoon with Omega Estate auto for some time. No probs with gearbox. No need for extra coolers. (Unlike Fords!!).

Cat has just given up though (not down to towing) maybe the 280,000 miles on the clock.

Thanks for the tip about the oil filler cap, I will certainly give it a go. There is certainly no oil escaping from the gearbox and the filler cap does make sense. I will give it a go at the weekend. Thanks again.

I've just purchased a 2.5 CDX V6 Auto estate Omega, wonderful drive 160K miles on the clock, everything works except the CD autochanger, I can't see any controls on how to get it to work !!!
There are two buttons on the end of the left hand side stalk on the steering column which don't appear to do anything, are these the CD controls ???
my only other gripe is the radio
it only works on the ignition side of the key, I would like to have the radio on while working on the car without having to have the ignition on, is this normal ????
someone please help !!!!

Nice motor mate. On the CDX buttons on left hand column stalk are the cruise control which will only work at 25mph ish plus. CD autochangers are troublesome on most cars after they get past a certain age. There should be a CD button on your stereo, make sure autochanger is plugged in, in the boot and that the magazine is inserted properly. If it doesnt work there will be a fault code that will appear on your multi-function display. CD?? look up in the hand book and this may give you an idea of what the problem is. My dad had a 94 CDX and he had to have the laser replaced in his. The stereos on a Vauxhalls are wired from the factory so that they will work without the key being in. Maybe someone has been fiddling with the wiring ang disturbed the CD autochanger wiring at the back of the headunit as well? Good luck, enjoy the finest V6.

thanx for the feedback, I found out todat that at somepoint the tape player/radio has been changed to an inferior model which does not have a CD mode button on it, hence the non functional cd unit!!!
I've also been told i can get the tape /radio 'chipped up' to allow the cd to play, or alternatively, change the tape/radio for a higher spec. model
either way its gonna have to wait due to shortage of cash, but at least i know what the problem is, and how to solve itknowing the problem and solution is a problem (almost) solved

No, not cured yet, I am having it serviced this Monday, they are going to have a look at it. When I had it MOT'd recently, the guy said that there's slight wear to the track rod ends, whether thats whats contributing to it, I dont know. I'll let you know if they come up with anything..

Hi sorry not a reply to anyone but a question. We bought a Vauxhall Omega Estate last year and have had nothing but problems with it since, not the Omegas fault we are now aware just the person who sold it to us not being very honest. It's an R reg and we paid 6995 for it last year. We have now been told the torque converter?? needs replacing as the car is just completely dying on its feet. Body work and all other things are ok so far but have heard the torque converter is very very expensive to replace. Also, when you turn the wheel, it makes an awful grinding noise, any ideas what that may be? When you put your foot on the accelerator, the cars seems to have to think about things for ages before it kicks in and is very very slow from take off. I would be very grateful for any help or advice. We really cannot afford to just scrap the car after all the money spent on it and bills we've had since then.

Anybody, can you help me PLEASE.
My omega estate cdx2.5v6 (99).I have a reoccuring problem with the auto box,for some reason it jumps out of gear,to get it back i`ve got to go to 3rd let it engage then back into drive.
Also some times when this happens the screen on the dash displays "AUTOMATIC GEARBOX".The box goes into default mode, locks gearbox in 3rd.You can clear this, but it`s scary when you`ve got to get across 3 lanes of traffic to turn your engine off.(this clears the fault)I`ve only had the car 6months,noticed problem day after i bought it.Gearbox recondioned 4months ago,rpm sensor changed, still problem persists
Both the engine and the gearbox have been plugged onto a computer,no problems found.Car still under warranty, both garage and transmission people don`t know what else to do

Any advice would be greatfully recieved

I have a 96 2,5 CD. Has anyone had a problem with the brake lamp / indicator fuse blowing? If so any suggestions on how to fix?

Has it got a tow bar? if so check the wiring to the brakes where the tow feed is joined they can be a bit bodged.

Does anyone know where the outside temperature sensors are and what they look like? Display is showing wild readings and I suspect sensor(s) (there are two apparently) are playing up.
