ahaaaa my friend!!! You need to disconnect the bonnet sensor for the alarm. My car is navy blue and the sun heats the bonnet up like mad, which was causing the bonnet to flex ever so slightly, hence the momevment of the sensor and the resulting alarm at 7am. i bought the car and it went off every day for four days straight, disconnected the senson and i'm into the 6th week with no peep out of it. And yes the alarm is still working as normal apart from monitoring the bonnet, as my little dog was left inside the car for 10 seconds as a test when I locked it :)

I remember several earlier posts mentioning the alarm going off as the sun shone on the car. A cheap solution believe it or not was closing all the interior air vents!

Ferriday - did you fine the cause of your autobox problems? (for all those out there "automatic gearbox" warning and having to change gear manually untill using the old turn it off then on again trick!)

I have a 2000 3.0i elite. When I stop the car after a run and turn off the ignition, I get 4 loud chirps from the alarm. There are no warning messages or lights and the alarm works perfectly. Has anybody got any ideas?

Same here. Bought the car 6 week ago, and EVERY morning 3 days running as soon as the sun came round the side of the house, onto my nice shiny navy blue car, off it went. Disconnected the bonnet sensor and havent heard a peep since, a right cheap fix if u ask me. :-)

Hi, This is a factory fitted alarm. It only chirps just after the engine is turned off. No other sounds when set or disarmed but works fine when triggered. The only problem is in the early hours of the morning when i try to creep home unnoticed!!

as yours is the newer model to mine perhaps its a different alarm system.a quick thing to try is dissconnect you bonnet switch before you go home and see if this helps.because wot happened on earlier models is on darker cars the bonnet use to get hot and flex which made the bonnet switch sense that it was open.try it and c,it just unplugs so if if dosent do the trick just plug it back in again,

Hi Doug, I have a 2001 2.6 CDX estate & have the same 4 chirps, most - but not every time it seems. A chap on another forum reckoned it was the 'alarm battery' ??? that is flat, not the key fob,??? I'm none the wiser!

Like yours - mine works normally,& BTW I have no problem with the bonnet switch, even though mine's black!

Hi BigJohn, Thanks for the info. I've read that the alarm battery is an integral part of the alarm control box and cannot be replaced. It will need a new control box, so I'll have to live with the chirping and apologise to the wife & neighbours for waking them.

I have experianced a similar problem with my 3.2 v6. I understand there is a water cooler of some type, situated in the middle of the 'V'. This could be the offending part. I am told on good authority that this is a major design fault.

Alarm siren unit (with integral battery) is not part of the control box. It is mounted under the scuttle plate between servo and inner wing immediatley below the rainwater drain.
There are two types:
£107+vat for the pre2000 models
£43+vat for the post2000 models.

I am virtually sure that you can use the newer/cheaper type made by Bosch, as opposed to the older GM one. It is properly sealed, without the rather stupidly designed back cover that doesn't give an adequate water seal.
p.s. bent the mount to move the siren unit away from the water drain outlet.
p.p.s. Contrary to previous postings - it is relatively easy to get at, just don't lose the scuttle plate retaining 1/4 turn clips (under windscreen seal)

Hi all - new member. Have had a 96/7 Omega 2.0 CDX Estate for 4 months or so - only 60k on the clock and fsh - seemed pretty pristine when bought but appears to have beened jinxed since I got my hands on it.... (keyed, sticking sunroof, trolley dent etc....)

However, the one I cant fathom out is a misfire that is intermittent and gradually getting worse. Initially only just perceptable when accelerating with the cruise control on the motorway, can now be really uneven at low speeds around town.

First thoughts were the ECU, then maybe a bit of dirt in an injector; now have seen comments on here about EGR (didnt know i had that....) and other valves in the induction side. I'd prefer not to have to take it to a Vx dealer without some idea of whats going on as this feels like the sort of thing they could charge an arm and a leg just to identify. S'pose I could swap the HT leads, plugs etc, but would prefer not to waste my time if theres a known common problem.

Can anyone give any me any ideas?

Can anyone tell me EXACTLY how to remove the black part with ECOTEC written on it, from the top of the plenum chamber on a 2.5 v6 Omega? I understand that this item acts as a filter for vented crankcase gas. I also need to know if it is cleanable, and if so what is the best method.
