I need to re-install the air con compressor clutch plate which fell off after the belt breaking. Access is the problem. I don't see how to reach it and the Haynes manual I have does not cover diesel models.Andy

My missus had a '96 (N) 2.0 GLS. She got only 15mpg on mixed driving (she isn't the smoothest of drivers). I bought her a 2000 (W) pre facelift 3.0 litre MV6. She now gets 18mpg on same usage.Me - I've got a '99 MV6 3.0 litre, and get 24-25 . Don't forget - this is a heavy car, and maybe the 2.0 litre is best for what it was designed for (60-80 constant motorway). Sorry - but I refuse to comment on the difference between consumption between both our MV6's on account that I like to get me leg over at least sometimes!!

Hi Andy you should remove the rad to give you as much room as possible also to give you a bit more flexibillity you could un bolt the condenser for the air con but do not disconnect it as it will cost you around £80 to re gas system. Other than that put it on a pit / ramp remove the under cover and repair it from the under side (prob the easy option) regards Les

I think you're right Les!I will do the rounds of garages/air con specialists first and see if it is worth having a go myself. Andy

Thanks Dave but I think my compressor is fine. The nut retaining the clutch came loose (along with the clutch which ended-up in the engine tray). I have all the bits apart from the bolt to refasten the clutch. I'll probably find this when I remove the stoneguard under the engine. This all happened when the belt frayed and came off. Thanks anyway, I'll be in touch if it's worse than I think. Andy

Hi Big AI am having serious trouble with hot starting on mt 2.5 TD can you give me any advice at all. From what I can tell it's not exactly rare, but no-one knows what causes it and how to fix it. I am ready to scrap the whole car if i can't fix it soon, so your advice would be really appreciated. Thanks The Rev

Alarm going off at random! 2001 2.6 auto estate, 98k, no other problems, had the car 17 months. This morning at 10:45, 10 days ago at 03:00, & before that also at night, for no apparent reason, no common factor that I can find. Sometimes just the 2 tone, sometimes with horns & flashers!Only thing I can think of is the battery is nearly 5 years old, what do you think? Today I measured it at 14.47, then opened drivers door & left it open with interior light on, it dropped to 13.35 in a few minutes. Drove down to Kwikfit for a battery test, they measured 14.69 & holding steady, so "it looks OK", but they wouldn't do a 'load test' 'cos off the sensors etc!' Any Ideas? Help please, I don't have a lot of faith in any local dealers, so what is the best plan?

BigJohn, you could also bring your problem in here: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/omega_owners/There's some real experts there, and I've seen a lot of this sort of problem get fix by the group.

Hi BIg John,Looking at your message, your tests on the battery have been whilst the engine has been running, hence 14.+ volts, all you are doing here is testing that the alternator is charging ok, which it is. For a simple test to see if the battery is holding its charge it to put a meter over it, say first thing in the mourning (before using the car), the meter should read 12.7v ish, for a good battery, but if its drops below a certian threshold (i don't know what figure that is, say 12.3v) this will trigger the alarm, your battery may be getting to that figure, but its a simple test, and will take 30 seconds, (before getting to involved with the entire system), good luck! ian

Hi Ian, thanks for your reply, you've made me realise I made a complete cock up of the voltages I posted - duh - I must have had a senior moment, or a helping of C R A F T! I was in a hurry when I posted & totally ballsed it up, sorry. What I meant to say was; the voltage without the engine running & before I did anything was 12.47, not 14+, then dropped to 12.35 in a few minutes. Also the Kwikfit meter read 12.69 not 14+, again with the engine off. So I guess I have sort of already done what you have sensibly suggested, but I don't know what voltages I should expect, or what 'rate of drop' will trigger the alarm. I think I will have to take it to the main dealer tomorrow & see what tests they can do. Does anybody still do the old fashioned *Load test*? Even if it means disconnecting the battery before doing the test! Cheers, John

Hi have had a progressively worse radio reception problem. FM searching a lot (although can hear stations when signal strong) and AM just noise, no reception. Problem suggests bad aerial connection but have checked connections even under the roof mount aerial. People tell me that a booster is needed and is common older Omega Est problem. Any help gratefully received. Spencer

Hi got a 97 Elite 3.0. On an intermitent basis the fan on the Climate Control stops. I understood from a person in the know that there is some sort of solid state device under the glove box that comes loose and a good shove gets it working again but i can't find it. Also some symptoms have included no fan working until should manually turn the fan up to position 9 and then step it down again. Can anyone help me locate the device and or how to replace if needed. Thanks spencer

Alarm update; I went to local VX main dealer today & saw one of the technicians I know, he said definitely the Alarm sounder unit battery flat. This was also causing the 4 loud blips when the ignition was turned off sometimes. He plugged in the handheld diagnostic tester which showed drivers door solenoid fault, & alarm sounder battery flat! The new sounder, (sealed unit), was £45 & an easy job, so I hope - no more midnight alarms - sleep well!PS The diagnostic test cost nothing, so all in all a good result, & cheaper than a new battery, except now the drivers door solenoid ain't happy :-(

I had a similar problem earlier this year. The power siren just kept going off at an random times "Usualy in the middle of the night!" Try testing the alarm system fully, i.e. by arming it and activating it. My problem was the alarm Horn, the fault was therefore evident that the horn its self simply didn't sound but the indicators flashed. This is a commom fault on the Omega's, owing to the location and getting wet so often. I got a replacement from a Vectra in a scrap yard, test it on a spare battery before buying it, make sure it says "Beeeeeeep!" The Vauxhall alarm system constantly monitors all of its components for tamper, so if someone were to bend the bonnet back to attack the horn to disable the alarm, the system would see it missing and the siren would take over, this is likewise for any other of the switches etc.Be careful not to damage the splash panel, they're very brittle and a crack would cause your new horn to go faulty.. Hope this gives a few pointers, let us know how you get on.. Dave
