Whoops, H1 are the wrong bulbs, should be H7 main beam - xenon type from Halfords £17.99 for a pair - NOT a 5 minute job just to change a couple of bulbs though!!

The problem sounds very much like the rubber bushes in the front roll-bar links. Both sides have been replaced on my Omega and this apparantly is quite a common occurrance. You can easily tell by grabing hold of the link and seeing whether it moves and creates a nice clunk. The complete link has to be relpaced which is not a difficult operation.

I am sure that the anti roll bar rods are different items. They have nothing to do with the steering and my car passed its Mot with one of these tie rods knocking. I had the second tie rod changed in the Isle of Wight this summer by a Vauxhall agent at a total cost of £56. The rods are just behind the wheel and link the lower wish bone to the anti roll bar which sits behind the steering rack. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone , i have a problem with my omega 2.5 V6 98S tourer Well i think i have a problem ? this is my first vauxhall so not to clued up on them , so im hoping you guys can help , my tappets are a little noisey but only really noticible when starting from cold when the car has warmed up they sound fine its only if you lift the bonnet that you can hear the tapping , when at a stand still and ticking over i can hear a ticking sound from under both front wings now i put this down to the sound of the tappets travelling through to the bottem of the car as when i slowly press the gas the sound speeds up in time then stops when i get the revs quite high , i was planning to change the tappets to stop all the noises , but i spoke to a friend today who is a bit of a car novice and he does not think the ticking from under front wings is to do with the tappets ? so this is were im hoping you guys can help as im baffled as to were the sound his coming from or is it normal for vauxhalls , will be graefull for youe advise , cheers Rich

Hi guys , folowing my last post about ticking/bearing sort of sound from under both front wings on my omega 2.5 V6 , i took the car to a vauxhall specialist today he said the noise is not normal and its not to do with the tappets , he thinks? it may be coming from the V belt area , i have booked it in with him the plan is to remove the V and and run the engine and see if the noise stops and take it from there, the thing is its had a new cambelt kit in the lastweek and 12,000 miles ago it had new water pump + new V belt and tensoiner ive only had the car a month and sounded fine when i first got it , the noise started about a week before cambelt was replaced so im just wondering if any of you guys have had a similar problem or mybe be able to point me in the right direction , its just the specialist said its a process of elimination so at £45 an hour could turn out to be expencive , will appreciate all the advise i can get , cheers Rich

Hi There

Have you tried sitting in the car with the doors locked, turn the ignition on then hold the lock button on the fob, the locks should then drop and rise again resetting you alarm.

Key Fob should work.

Hi
I have an omega 2.5v6 with the same problem. Dont go wasting you money on tappets, the problem is the exhaust manafold.
there is a small gap between the manafold and the block and you can hear them untill the manafold heats up and expands to seal the gap. My car has had this for 3 years with out concern.
Its not worth bothering about and it goes when it heats up.

Hi Guys
My omega 2.5v6 has developed a strange quirk, it limits itself to 4000 revs. The dealer said it was a faulty enging speed sensor and charged me €500 for fixing it. It has gone again and now they say its a bigger problem they have to check out. The car is only worth a bout €1000 and is not worth spending a fortune on. Has anyone else had a similar problem?
thanks for the help!

I have had a 2.5TD manual estate, with 195K on the clock. I've owned it for 3.5 years and have averaged over that time 38MPG. Its gone as low as 33MPG when flooring it full of people, and as high as 43MPG when driving gentle.

I know this as I keep a spreadsheet which is updated to calculate running costs etc.

For your information: veggie oil at a 20% mixture works well, just a small decrease in power and a chip shop smell outside. But it reduces the average cost of a litre of diesel..

Veggie Oil etc is fine. However if you have your tank dipped by HM Customs they will seize your vehicle and refuse to give it back until you pay about £2,000.00 in pictures of the Queen. No cheques thank you! If you want to make your own fuel, or use veg oil. mr Brown wants 27p a litre.

I say.... interested in this veggie oil, i was seriously considering making my own white diesel our of spend chipshop fat, getting a 50gal drum etc water heater element bla bla bla, .

Tell me more pls if you will about your mixture ratio, and does it have to be clean veggie oil, in other words can used chip shop oil be strained and mixed with pump diesel?

JON

Hi John.
I've made hundreds of gallons of the stuff. Firstly though you need to register with H.m. Customs. They are wise to vehicles smelling like a chippy so are the Cops and traffic wardens. Best to Get 3 IBC's (1000ltr containers) and let it settle. Sediments to the bottom and solid fat to the top. You can then do a three stage filtration with the final filtration as fine as a coffee filter. You shouldn't need to add pump diesel as the engine will go on this no problems. Check first though. The modern diesels will run happily on it. Jim

I have a 2.5 petrol CDX Estate and this is very noisy when first started. Initially I thought the exhaust had a leak or loose baffles but adain after it gets hot it becomes quite quiet. Could this be the same manifold issue?

I've had my TD Auto for 2.5 yrs and the average over that period is 33MPG (Motorway & normal roads @ 50% ea). Is this good or should I get better? If so how?

I have a little problem: my brake lights dont work!

Having checked the fuse (which also runs the hazards), checked the bulbs (incase both blew at the same time), and all the connections at the brake pedal, and the lights, I still have no brake lights.

The only two things common to both sets of lights, left and right hand side, is the fuse and the actual switch at the brake pedal. I know this switch also works the cruise control (which I dont have), does anybody in www land know how to test the switch?

It is a four inline version as opposed to four in a square arrangement. I have a multi metre etc, and would like to solve this problem ASAP.

Cheers!

You could check your wiring to see if some of the wires have come loose or broken with wear at the switch end
