Hi Spencer, wondered if you could help me with a problem i have with my car..
it`s a 1998 S registration Vauxhall Omega 2.5 V6 Estate, i love this car but i have a HORRIBLE wharbling sound coming from the exhaust when i accelerate, i have had the REAR Box replaced by a local mechanic, and it`s still doing it! there is NO loss of power or anything, just a horrible wharbling, (sounds like theres a hole in the exhaust, but there`s not, that type of a sound) could it be the Catalytic convertors ? i hope not as i have been quoted over £700 for replacements :-)

cheers mate

It is difficult to say, but when the cats go its normally more of a rasp. Try having the emissions checked. The V6 can be prone to cracking exhaust manifolds, but this normally ounds like a blow. Have the lambda reading checked when the emmisions are done as this wil be high if there is an exhaust leak.

Hello,

I think this has been asked before, but I cannot find an answer in the forum.

I own a 1998 CDX, V6. Does anyone know where the outside temperature sensors are and what they look like? Display is showing a fixed reading of 16.5 and suspect sensor(s) (there are two apparently) are playing up

Spencer,

My 1994 2.5 CDX Auto Est needed topping up of coolant last week. The inside of the radiator cap was 'caked'in a beige moose substance. After 150 motorway miles it needed topping up again. No obvious leaks as far as I can see and the oil on the dip stick looks nice and clear brown.
Any ideas.

could be a faulty hot start valve (could be the same thing you are referring too) this enrichens the mixture on hot start up.

Suggestions needed.... The outside temp on my v6 Tourer estate just reads 'F ' and then degrees C. I've changed the outside temp sensor - could it be the dash display that's faulty?

Another issue - what mpg should I expect from a '99 v6 2.5 auto estate? I'm getting 17-19 urban, 25 combined urban/motorway (mainly urban) and 30-40 on motorway only.

Ralph,
Interested in dilema as i have the same problem myself. I had oil in the expansion tank as well (nice). I guess it was the head gasket that had gone.
I have mine booked into a garage as i write this. Any advice ?

To all those paying 80p a litre for both diesel and petrol. I have a 2000 2.0 GLS estate. At 80k miles it was converted to LPG. Now at 140k miles it is still going strong though it needed a complete new exhaust system - block to tailpipe - at 120k miles. During this time I have saved more than the cost of the car (secondhand at £4,500)AND repairs on the fuel savings, as LPG is around 40p litre. Not being able to travel in the Chunnel is nothing. The Law on this is outdated. The LPG tank and regulators are safer than the factory fitted petrol system. Some civil servant without a clue again. The oil in my car just doesn't get dirty either, and the oil filters look like new after 12k. I used to have a Mercedes 300TE which was truely bomb proof but at 22mpg average, a bit tough on the wallet. So far, this Omega has worked out OK, if a bit gutless. I too have a worn tyre on the LHS outer edge. At some point I will have a proper four wheel alignment but it could be the very tight turning circle scrubbing the tyre, especially as this is the tyre on the out side of UK roundabout turns. I would love to have bought the BMW diesel engined estate but believe it or not, 30mpg in LPG works out to cost the same as a 55mpg diesel! Oh and as mentioned before, LPG keeps the engine almost spotless. I'd happily take the ferry for all the £1,000s I have saved on excessive fuel tax on petrol and diesel!

Hi, I have an R reg 2.5td auto estate and tow a Lunar Delta 560, I too wanted to find anyone that has had the 2.5 desiel ecu chipped. Did you get any reply to your post and did you go ahead chip yours, by the way mine was only getting 19>21 towing and 26>32 solo but since I de-catted it that has improved slightly to 22>26 towing and 30>35 solo but I do live in a hilly area of the pennines and auto's are poor on ecconomy when it comes to hills.
