I would assume he/she means they require to be checked.
What model of Landrover is it ?

I thought that Quote "Needs oil and water in it" does not constitute "needs checking." OK?

Apolgies if you took me the wrong way earthmover no offence was meant sometimes when someone puts the original question the information given can be scant at best and technically you are right about what you said if the bonnet cant be opened how do you know know it needs it LOL !
Quite a few folk post asking for info with no make model year etc and you've got no chance to help them unless they elaborate.

That's not a problem glad to meet you anyway. I find that there are soooo many people who drive/own cars but have no idea what goes on under the bonnet. I stopped to help a girl a few yrs ago who said her car was smoking badly, but it didn't do it until she had put the oil in. When I asked how much she put in she said she didn't know but she bought it from Tescos where she worked for £5.99 which then was a gallon I asked how much of it she'd put in and she said "All of it" she did the common thing which they do and that's start the car and then think "OOOH I better check the oil" of course when it's cold just been started and stopped there's no oil on the dipstick. for others reading this ALWAYS CHECK THE OIL ON A LEVEL SURFACE AND BEFORE YOU START THE VEHICLE OR WHEN IT'S BEEN STANDING FOR ABOUT 10 MINS

Yep earthmover seen this a few time over the years, seen a diesel runaway with itself (over rev) and even with the key out the engine ran on the oil flat out until it started to throw things out the engine !!
(ALWAYS CHECK THE OIL ON A LEVEL SURFACE AND BEFORE YOU START THE VEHICLE.)
This is sound advice to anyone going under the bonnet of a car primarily if your new to it all when going to check/add oil.

And if the catch is broke you should be able to wriggle your fingers in through the radaitor grill and get hold of the cable and release it that way, landrovers I know about its escort vans I'm struggling with lol
